GSK and Cambridge Partner on Immune System Research

The Cambridge-GSK Translational Immunology Collaboration (CG-TIC) is investing more than GBP 50 million to combine GSK's scientific expertise in the immune system, artificial intelligence and clinical development capabilities with Cambridge's complementary expertise.
GSK, Cambridge University and Cambridge University Hospitals announced a major investment of GBP 50 million to accelerate research and development on immune system-related diseases. The new collaboration, named the Cambridge-GSK Translational Immunology Collaboration (CG-TIC), aims to develop more precise and faster solutions in treating immune-mediated diseases. Using artificial intelligence and machine learning, it seeks to discover new methods for treating kidney and respiratory diseases.
Two main disease areas will be the focus: Kidney and Respiratory Diseases
According to research conducted, 850 million people worldwide suffer from kidney disease and 545 million from chronic respiratory tract diseases. Through this collaboration, GSK is combining its R&D capabilities with Cambridge University's strong technology infrastructure to improve and develop current treatment methods for kidney and respiratory diseases.

Cambridge University Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Prentice and UK Science, Innovation and Technology Minister Peter Kyle highlighted the importance of this collaboration, noting that it has the potential to advance the treatment of immune system-related diseases using artificial intelligence and provide significant benefits to patients globally.
The Cambridge-GSK Translational Immunology Collaboration (CG-TIC) will be led by Nicolas Wisniacki, Head of Clinical Research at GSK, and Prof. David Thomas, Principal Investigator for Kidney Diseases at the Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Diseases.
