Medcem Çimento to Commission Alternative Fuel Unit

Medcem Çimento, which expanded its capacity at the end of 2023 to become one of the world's largest exporting companies, is taking another significant step toward sustainability by establishing an alternative fuel feeding unit to reduce fossil fuel consumption.
Critical Step Toward 2030 Sustainability Targets
Medcem Çimento Group is preparing to commission an alternative fuel feeding unit as it pursues environmental sustainability and decarbonization targets for 2030. The unit aims to achieve carbon reductions of up to 30% in clinker production by using alternative fuels such as agricultural biomass. The project is scheduled to become operational in November.
Environmentally Friendly Approach Strengthened by Circular Economy
The alternative fuel feeding unit, equipped with automation systems, is designed to deliver safe and efficient production with a capacity of 44 tons per hour. Contributing to the circular economy, the project aims to convert biomass and waste sourced from areas near the plant into energy through environmentally sound methods.
Flexible and Efficient Alternative Fuel Feeding System
Medcem offers the most flexible alternative fuel solutions with a stock capacity of 3,500 m³. This system can burn blended materials such as waste-derived fuels with varying calorific values, biomass, rubber and textile waste. This way, variations in density will not negatively affect the feeding and weighing process. State-of-the-art systems will be used in conveying equipment to minimize scattering and odor factors while achieving energy efficiency. Long-distance transport via air-supported conveyors will further reduce occupational health and safety risks.
Award-Winning Project on International Stage
This project, developed in partnership by Medcem Çimento Group and ATS Global, won the "Best Investment Project of the Year" award in the "Alternative Fuel Feeding Projects" category at a competition organized by Global Chemfuel, receiving recognition on an international platform. The project was awarded following a month-long voting process involving more than 200 delegates.
Future Targets
Closely monitoring adaptation to climate change and emissions trading systems, Medcem aims to assume a pioneering role in the sector through its sustainability projects. With zero waste and carbon neutrality targets in mind, Medcem Çimento Group positions itself as a strong player in environmental sustainability in the sector while contributing to Turkey's sustainability vision.
