Nippon Paint Invites Architects to CCA

Nippon Paint is launching applications for the Creative Colour Awards, which it is organizing for the third time this year, to evaluate the work of professionals from different countries around the world and to establish connections between them and industry leaders.

Nippon Paint held the Turkey launch of the Creative Colour Awards (CCA), which is open to participation by all architects worldwide and is being organized for the third time this year, at a meeting held at the Istanbul Museum of Painting and Sculpture. The meeting, which featured Arzu Uludağ, Assistant General Manager responsible for Marketing at Nippon Paint, Francesca Sapey, a Spanish architect and member of the competition's advisory board, and Architect Nevzat Sayın, representing Turkey on the competition's global jury, was attended by more than 50 architecture offices.

Architects can submit completed projects in the architecture, interior design, and public space design categories between 2 November 2024 and 31 March 2025. In addition to monetary prizes in each category, winners will gain access to Nippon Paint's global network of designers and stakeholders.

At the meeting, Arzu Uludağ, Assistant General Manager responsible for Marketing at Nippon Paint, shared detailed information about the Creative Colour Awards and said, "We are excited to announce the third edition of the CCA, through which we recognize designers' extraordinary and innovative use of color on a global scale. By treating color as the fundamental language of design when creating well-designed space collections, we believe our competition, which focuses on drawing attention to the importance of color, will elevate the creative and innovative applications of paints to higher levels."

CCA becomes an extraordinary showcase of cultural perspectives

Inviting all color-passionate architects to participate in the CCA, Uludağ said, "The first edition of our competition, born as a result of Nippon Paint's initiative to encourage the use of color in architecture, interior design, and public space design, made an impressive start with 175 submissions from 14 countries and regions. In addition to Turkey, we expect much greater interest this year in the CCA, which has become an extraordinary showcase of cultural perspectives through the participation of talents using the transformative power of color from Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Taiwan."

Spanish Architect Francesca Sapey, an advisory board representative, presented on 'The Power of Color' and stated that colors are part of our DNA. "There is always a purpose behind the use of color. Colors are our most important material as architects. For colors, which we see as both a pathfinder and a guide, we can say they are the most universal common language used by the entire world," Sapey said, adding that every product has a characteristic color and shape and that no two projects are alike.

Architect Nevzat Sayın, who will represent Turkey on the competition's advisory board this year, said the following in his presentation titled 'The Place of Color in Architecture': "Colors are one of the most important tools for drawing or not drawing attention, for distinguishing or not distinguishing. In our architectural works, we received the question 'Where did these colors come from?' and frankly, this question made us very happy. Because colors are actually the most important data we use to describe something. In short, we can say that colors and architecture are a matter in themselves and one cannot work without colors."

Applications accepted in three categories

The Creative Colour Awards cover completed projects in the Architecture, Interior Design, and Public Space Design categories. In addition to monetary prizes for winners in each category, access will be provided to Nippon Paint's global network of designers and stakeholders. In this way, an important additional contribution will be made to Nippon Paint's vision of bringing together like-minded designers worldwide. Applications will be accepted until 31 March 2025, and the competition results will be evaluated by the jury.

Among competition participants, architects who make the shortlist will be guests of Nippon Paint in Tokyo in July 2025 for the awards ceremony. Applications for the competition will be accepted through the www.creativecolourawards.com website.
