DuPont Introduces Single-Layer Tychem® ThermoPro Coverall with Triple-Threat Protection
DuPont's Protection Solutions department continues to attract interest since the introduction of its new single-layer, three-threat protective DuPont™ Tychem® ThermoPro suit.
Tychem® ThermoPro combines the chemical protection of DuPont™ Tychem® fabric with the flame and arc flash protection of Nomex® fiber in a single suit. Tychem® ThermoPro is offered in different configurations: full body suit, combo kit (consisting of apron and jacket), and individual apron.
To protect others, emergency response teams must first protect themselves effectively.
When responding to a traffic accident or industrial emergency, they need a suit that will protect them from many hazards. Tychem® ThermoPro provides 360-degree protection through a combination of Tychem® and Nomex® fabric technology. Tychem® components create a chemical barrier, enabling the Tychem® ThermoPro product to withstand exposure to numerous toxic chemicals for at least 8 hours.
Nomex® fiber, flame-resistant and trusted by fire departments worldwide, comprises the other component of Tychem® ThermoPro and provides critical extra seconds to escape sudden fire conditions. Nomex® also gives the Tychem® ThermoPro product proven protection against electrical arc hazards that may come from power systems.
Until now, users exposed to multiple risks had to choose between chemical and flame protection or wear bulky and impractical suit combinations.
The new Tychem® ThermoPro consists of only a single layer, offering protection against liquid chemical sprays, sudden fire and electrical arc while providing greater range of motion and user comfort.
Tychem® ThermoPro's liquid penetration resistance has been tested against over 260 chemicals, 175 of which showed no permeation after 480 minutes. This test also demonstrates that Tychem® ThermoPro provides protection for at least 8 hours against 19 of the 21 chemicals listed in ASTM F1001. The thermal protection offered by DuPont™ Tychem® ThermoPro suits is clearly demonstrated in the DuPont™ Thermo-Man® test. In this test, a full-size mannequin equipped with 122 thermal sensors is used to assess the level, extent, and location of potential burns on the suit under simulated flame exposure. Tests conducted on Thermo-Man® comply with ASTM F1930 standard. The Tychem® ThermoPro suit is shown to maintain continuity of a protective barrier to minimize burn injuries following flame exposure and does not continue to burn.
