UPS Acquires Frigo-Trans and BPL

UPS has agreed to acquire Frigo-Trans and its sister company BPL to meet the logistics needs of the cold chain market, which is expected to reach a value of USD 23.7 billion by 2030. By expanding its cold chain capacity, UPS aims to become the world's leading healthcare logistics provider with enhanced cold chain facilities and advanced technology infrastructure.

UPS, the international cargo and logistics leader, is continuing its commitment to expand cold chain logistics capacity for the healthcare services sector. To this end, UPS has announced an agreement to acquire Frigo-Trans and its sister company BPL. This strategic investment by UPS in healthcare logistics will ensure the safe and effective transportation of temperature-sensitive products. Through its expanding cold chain facilities and networks on a global scale, the company will provide higher standards in transportation times for pharmaceuticals and biological products.

In the second quarter, UPS increased its revenues by 2.6% through its growth in the logistics sector, which also includes healthcare services. According to Mordor Intelligence's Turkey Cold Chain Logistics Market Size and Share Analysis - Growth Trends and Forecasts (2024 - 2029) report, Turkey, which ranks 8th globally in cold storage capacity, is expected to achieve an annual compound growth rate (CAGR) of 7.03% in the pharmaceutical market by 2029 and reach USD 2.72 billion.

Frigo-Trans provides temperature-controlled storage and cold chain transportation

Frigo-Trans is a Germany-based logistics company that provides end-to-end warehouse and shipping solutions across Europe for pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers. Frigo-Trans's sister company BPL performs GDP-compliant transportation of time-critical and temperature-sensitive products for all customers, particularly biopharmaceutical companies with special temperature, quality and speed transportation requirements.

Frigo-Trans's network covers six temperature zones ranging from cryopreservation (-196°C) to ambient temperature (+15° to +25°C) with temperature-controlled storage; pan-European cold chain transportation solutions; and temperature-controlled and time-critical cargo transportation services.

The acquisition is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025, subject to routine closing conditions and approvals.
