AYSAD Asks 'What Happens Now?'

The "What's Next?" event organized by the Footwear Suppliers Association (AYSAD) took place at Hilton Mall of Istanbul with strong attendance from sector representatives and stakeholders.

The event began with remarks by AYSAD Board Chairman Sait Salıcı, addressing the current state of the sector and discussing what awaits the industry in the future in light of economic data.

In his remarks, Salıcı drew attention to Turkey's potential as a production hub, stating: "We have truly valuable manufacturers. Turkey is a country with potential as a production hub in this region." Noting the declines in footwear sector exports and rising imports over the past two years, Salıcı emphasized that Turkey must offer innovative and differentiated products in order to secure a place in world markets. He said: "To make money and place our brands on world shelves, Turkey is no longer a low-cost country in terms of production expenses."

Economist Ali Ağaoğlu delivered a presentation at the event, stating that "today is the result of yesterday, and tomorrow will be the result of today." Discussing the impact of global economic developments on the country's economy, Ağaoğlu highlighted possible negative effects on the footwear sector as well as potential new opportunities that could emerge.

Finally, the event featured a panel moderated by journalist and author Meliha Okur, with panelists including AYSAD Chairman Sait Salıcı, BMD Board Chairman Sinan Öncel, and Prolab Ayakkabı San. Tic. Aş. Founder Partner Levent Sipak.
