The Key to Success in Business Life: Mindfulness
The Key to Success and Mental Clarity in Business Life: Mindfulness
Business success is examined by many psychologists, and new perspectives on the subject continue to emerge. Throughout our working lives, we encounter many problems and can find ourselves in stressful situations.
In this context, we need to protect our own psychological health as much as we need to succeed. In fact, sometimes when we focus solely on success, we overlook how much the situations we are in and intense stress can strain us. As a result, we develop a need to discover ways to relax ourselves and manage our stress.
This is where "mindfulness" comes into play. Today, many global companies have begun providing their employees with mindfulness training, which can be understood in Turkish as conscious awareness. So what is mindfulness?
The "mindful" state, practiced by Buddhists for centuries, has become quite popular today. This teaching enables individuals to remain in the present moment with a specific perspective and attitude. This ability to remain in the present is called being "mindful."
Mindfulness practice has different scales and various types of training. These trainings generally consider four dimensions.
The first of these dimensions is acceptance. Mindfulness aims to accept the awareness of the present moment without judgment. In other words, no matter how uncomfortable things may be in that moment, the moment should be welcomed and accepted.
It aims for individuals to accept the moment they are in without subjective interpretation and without developing emotions. The second dimension is observation/attention. Here, the goal is to measure how much attention individuals pay to others' thoughts and reactions. What is important here is that the individual develops attention spontaneously and without developing any judgment.
The third dimension concerns how individuals identify their feelings and reactions. This dimension can be called descriptiveness. Here too, individuals are expected to describe without developing any judgment.
The fourth dimension is prudence/common sense. Here, the focus is on whether individuals act sensibly before making a decision while advancing with awareness.
Mindfulness in Business Life
In business life, being "mindful" contributes greatly to employee performance. According to research, employees who can carefully observe a situation without judging it and without developing stress toward it are able to make more ethical decisions regarding that situation and overcome difficulties more easily. The positive qualities that mindfulness offers can be listed as follows: more accurate and effective communication skills, making more ethical decisions, increased ability to manage stress and emotional state, improved performance, more creative solutions, improved ability to cope with difficulties, resilience against stressful situations, more motivated work, extended focus duration, transition from automatic behavior to conscious behavior. According to scientific research conducted, individuals who practice regularly for eight weeks show positive changes in cognitive, psychological, and even physiological areas. As a result of mindfulness practices, individuals show increased overall life satisfaction and happiness perception, decreased negative emotions, and positive changes in psychological skills such as self-confidence and resilience in the face of negative events.Advertisement
