PIGMENT TECHNOLOGY MOONSHINE EFFECT PIGMENTS

Before going into the details of pigment technology, the subject that needs to be clarified is the application areas and properties of effect pigments. We often hear cosmetic products described with terms such as pearlescent, metallic, glittery, multicolored, holographic, shimmering or lustrous. These terms actually describe the final appearance of a product, that is, how it looks and appears at the moment of application to the skin. These effects can only be obtained by adding effect pigments to colored cosmetics and skincare products. These pigments add a new dimension and richness to the final product.

Structure of Effect Pigments

Effect pigments not only provide color to formulations but also add reflection and dimension to the product. The specific properties desired from the final product can be achieved through the selection of an appropriate pigment that matches the desired effect. The substrate and coating sections, which are the two main parts of effect pigments, are responsible for achieving the desired effect. The most important point to know about the substrate section of pigments is its light refraction and reflection properties. In order to achieve the desired properties from the product, the substrate section of the pigment must refract and reflect light very well. The substrate's ability to reflect light directly affects the pigment's intensity and brightness. (Figure 1)

Material Selected for Pigment Substrate

Mica, synthetic mica and Borosilicate are commonly used materials as pigment substrates. Borosilicate substrates, when compared with other substrates, have almost negligible color impurities. Additionally, the borosilicate particle surfaces are quite smooth and even, which increases the light reflection potential. (Figure 2)

Difference of Moonshine Effect Pigments from Other Pigments

Moonshine Effect Pigments, which have high-quality Borosilicate substrate, offer four very special and innovative pigment series that meet the expectations of the cosmetics industry. These pigment series provide unique intensity and brightness at a level that pigments with mica substrate cannot reach. While providing magnificent color intensity to formulations, they simultaneously maintain the desired smooth feel.

Comparative Study with Moonshine Astral Effect Series

Two pigments of similar particle size but with different substrate thickness were examined in a medium viscosity, non-Newtonian liquid. Both solutions were left undisturbed for 2 weeks. In the study of the suspension amount of pigments, the Moonshine Astral Series Red color pigment, selected as a sample at 96 hours and 1 week, showed very good results compared to the other product.
