Nubicoat Ultramarine Blue Series

Ferro, which we represent, is one of the world's most important manufacturers of PB.29 Ultramarine Blue. Ultramarine blue is a distinctive blue with reddish undertones that no other blue pigment can achieve. In addition to being used for color correction and whitening purposes, ultramarine blues are among the most preferred pigments in the paint industry for the manufacture of blue-colored paints. Unique Blue Within their own range, they possess a color spectrum from the most reddish tone to the most greenish tone. Depending on these undertone characteristics they possess, their tinting strengths also vary. At the same time, since they have different particle size distributions, they exhibit different dispersion properties. FERRO has developed micronized Nubicoat series Ultramarine Blue pigments with a narrow particle size distribution, particularly for the paint industry. The Nubicoat Ultramarine Blue series contains no volatile compounds or heavy metals. It is an ecologically harmless, environmentally friendly pigment.

The Nubicoat series has 3 members:

• Nubicoat HWR (High Weather Resistance) • Nubicoat HTS (High Tinting Strength) • Nubicoat HRD (Highly Reddish)

Nubicoat HWR

Ultramarine blues have poor acid resistance, which is why they were not preferred for many years in exterior facade applications and in blue-colored paints. Production was carried out using silica encapsulation technology. However, this initial silica encapsulation technology was not very successful, and free silica released during dispersion resulted in both inadequate long-term acid resistance and poor dispersion. Nubicoat HWR, produced with new silica encapsulation technology, disperses much more easily and has significantly higher acid resistance performance. Provided the resin is protected, Nubicoat HWR can protect itself against acids. It has been made much more resistant to impacts and acids from industrial sources and the external environment. At the same time, Nubicoat HWR has 60% higher tinting strength compared to other classic Ultramarine Blues.  

Nubicoat HTS

It has 40% higher tinting strength compared to classic Ultramarine Blues. Due to its high tinting strength, it allows for higher titanium dioxide loading. Consequently, more opaque paints can be obtained without color change. It has a narrow particle size distribution and disperses very well.  

Nubicoat HRD

Ultramarine Blue pigments are commonly used in white paint applications to obtain a whiter color tone. The Ultramarine Blues most commonly used for color correction purposes are those with reddish undertones. Color tones obtained with organic pigments that can be used for this purpose do not provide the desired whiteness. Nubicoat HRD is the pigment with the most reddish undertone among known reddish-toned Ultramarine Blues. It can be used not only for white paints, but also for gray and black paints. It is possible to make gray more bluish gray and black more jet black. Its use is recommended particularly in important sectors such as white goods and automotive, and it delivers excellent results. For this purpose, it is sufficient to use very small amounts, such as 50 ppm, in the formulation. Its micronized nature makes the product disperse more easily.
