ChemLine Coatings and Their Application Against Chemical Corrosion on Concrete Surfaces
ChemLine Coatings provide significant improvements in product performance and corrosion resistance. ChemLine is a new formula with a patented Siloxirane 28 polymer, engineered and designed with 28 functional groups in every molecule.
The significance of ChemLine's high cross-link density:

ChemLine coatings cure at low temperatures. When cured, thanks to its high 28 functionality, it develops an extremely dense cross-linked molecular structure. Unlike other coatings, ChemLine's dominant cross-links pass through ether (carbon-oxygen-carbon) bonds. This eliminates high concentrations of hydroxyl groups (found in phenolic epoxies) and prevents hydrolysis from ester groups and aggressive attacks from acids. ChemLine 784/32 is a protective coating cured at ambient or low temperature for concrete floors, walls, protection areas and structural steel. All surfaces to be coated with ChemLine must be cleaned prior to mechanical preparation. The surface shall be free of oil, salt and dirt. The surface must be mechanically prepared to roughen it and remove the carbonation layer, concrete laitance and other contaminants. The surface profile shall be CSP-3 to CSP-5 in accordance with ICRI (International Concrete Repair Institute) standard guide 03732. Preparation can be performed by grit blasting using sharp angular abrasives, such as 8-20 silica sand, 1240 Black Beauty or G-14 steel shot, or by Blastrac machine using SAE 230-330 steel shot. Water blasting and wet sandblasting are also acceptable methods. Before coating application, all bug holes, cracks, spalled or damaged concrete, expansion joints and seams must be repaired and filled. After mechanical cleaning and repairs, the surface must be vacuum-cleaned to remove all dust, sand and embedded abrasives. During surface preparation and application procedures, relative humidity shall be below 50%, surface temperature between 15-40°C, and dew point at least 3°C above. ChemLine 784/32 dries depending on atmospheric conditions, reaching approximately 8-18 hours at ambient temperature of 22°C. However, drying time can be accelerated by blowing hot air at 32-43°C onto the coating surface for approximately 2-3 hours.ChemLine coatings can be applied with an airless pump at a ratio of at least 68:1, roller or brush. ChemLine is supplied in kits containing the appropriate proportions.
Always use complete kits for mixing. The kits must not be divided under any circumstances to make smaller portions. Component "A" (resin) is mechanically mixed using a high-shear mixer until color and consistency are uniform (typically 1–2 minutes). Component "B" (catalyst) is added slowly and thoroughly mixed using a high-shear mixer for approximately 3–5 minutes. Mixing should not be excessive, particularly when resin, catalyst and ambient temperatures are above 29°C. After mixing, a pot life of at least 5 minutes at 25°C is allowed, with a maximum of 10 minutes at 25°C, maximum 15 minutes at 20°C, maximum 20 minutes at 15°C. The mixture must be homogeneous and uniform in consistency before use. All ChemLine materials must be stored in climate-controlled facilities at temperatures between 20°C and 30°C. Materials must not be allowed to freeze and must not be exposed to direct sunlight. To achieve an application temperature of 21°C–25°C, the resin and catalyst must be kept in a "climate-controlled" container for at least 48 hours before mixing and application. During application, surface temperature must not fall below 16°C or exceed 43°C, and surface temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point. Relative humidity must not exceed 75%. Resin and catalyst temperature must be between 21°C and 32°C. The pot life of a 20-litre ChemLine 784/32 kit is approximately 30–45 minutes at 25°C after proper mixing. ChemLine coating is generally left to dry to the touch. On vertical and suspended surfaces, subsequent coats can be applied once the coating has lost its tack/dried. On floors requiring foot traffic, subsequent coats must be applied when the coating is hard, meaning it should not be damaged by walking on it. Optional Primer Coat (ChemLine Primer) is recommended for old, poorly-conditioned, porous concrete surfaces, with one coat of ChemLine Primer applied at a wet film thickness of 75–125 microns. Allow ChemLine Primer to dry to the touch. Following this, apply two full coats of ChemLine 784/32 for the second and third coats.First Full Coat
Apply ChemLine 784/32 (Red) in a cross-hatch pattern with 50% overlap. The recommended wet film thickness to achieve a coating thickness of 250–300 microns is 275–325 microns.Second Full Coat
Apply the second full coat of ChemLine 784/32 (Grey) in a cross-hatch pattern with 50% overlap. The recommended wet film thickness to achieve a coating thickness of 250–275 microns is 275–325 microns. After application of ChemLine Primer primer coat and 2 coats of ChemLine coating is completed, heat treatment may be applied under specified conditions, or the coating may cure under specified conditions at the specified temperature and duration. The following conditions must be observed during application and required tests and inspections must be performed: • Air temperature, • Surface temperature, • Relative humidity, • Surface roughness results, • Soluble salt contamination results, • Wet film thickness, • Dry film thickness, • Coating hardness and results after coating application is completed. Personnel performing the application must strictly follow the following safety precautions: 1- Safety glasses or face shield, 2- Respiratory masks during application, 3- Chemical gloves, 4- Long pants and long-sleeved shirt covered by protective work overalls, 5- Safety footwear.
