Leyla Gencer Remembered on the 15th Anniversary of Her Passing Borusan Sanat commemorated Leyla Gencer, one of the greatest names in 20th-century opera history, with a special gathering on the 15th anniversary of her death. The event featured speakers who knew the artist closely and discussed her educational background, professional journey, and contributions to culture and the arts.

Admirers and close ones gathered in memory of Leyla Gencer

Borusan Sanat held a special gathering on Tuesday, 10 May to commemorate Leyla Gencer on the 15th anniversary of her passing. Moderated by Ahmet E. Erenli and Serhan Bali, the event featured speakers Zeynep Oral, Evin İlyasoğlu, Franca Cella, and Daniele Borniquez. The speakers, who witnessed Gencer's artistic journey firsthand, shared their knowledge and memories on numerous topics ranging from the artist's youth in Turkey and her education to her career development in Italy and her contributions to cultural and artistic life. On this meaningful evening, rare concert footage of Leyla Gencer was presented to the audience for the first time, with live radio broadcast from Borusan Klasik.   Ahmet Erenli, one of the moderators and General Coordinator of the Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation, commented on the event as follows: "Last night we gathered at the Borusan Music House on a very special occasion. With our distinguished participants, our speakers who had the opportunity to know her closely, and the concert footage we released for the first time, we discussed Leyla Gencer, her meticulous approach to life and art, her passion and dedication to work. We shared our memories and our admiration for her. We thank all participants who were with us on this very valuable evening."
