The Same Apple, A New World at Galeri Diani! The solo exhibition "The Same Apple, A New World" by artist Sevinç Çiftci, a prominent and noteworthy representative of figurative painting, opens at Galeri Diani on 6 May 2023. The artist, known for prioritizing themes concerning individual-time-society relationships in her works, continues to question and this time addresses processes of "individual self-repair." Sevinç Çiftci stated, "In this period when we witness a major global tension that challenges our perception and exceeds our control, I chose to instrumentalize my subjective memory experiences to point toward the collective." In some of her paintings, she depicts a "wounded masculine," emphasizing fragility belonging to the male, while in self-portraits with closed eyes, she conveys a desire based on total rejection of order. Sevinç Çiftci explains, "As always, I frequently present metaphors related to hope and resistance in my paintings before the viewer." In her works, although objects appear to be swept up in the abstract, autonomous flow and movement of stain and line, these forms attempt to make visible the content that will constitute a solid conceptual foundation. We observe that the artist's production practice is shaped to allow an increasingly multiple understanding. Images emerging within the paint make the viewer feel as though they are moments emerging within time itself. The image used by the artist appears to fragment in order to reach its appearance in memory. This reminds us of how memory functions. Sevinç Çiftci confronts the viewer with not only the powerful, multifaceted dynamism of paint, but also, when we look at frequently used images, a metaphoric aesthetic system difficult to define.
