Schneider Electric and AMD Unveil Scalable Infrastructure Solution for AI Factories

Global energy technology leader Schneider Electric and technology company AMD have announced a new jointly developed and validated reference design for the AMD Helios rack-scale solution. Aimed at simplifying the deployment processes of AI factories, the solution seeks to help bring high-density AI infrastructures to life faster, with lower risk and less complexity.

Global energy technology leader Schneider Electric and technology company AMD have announced a new reference design jointly developed and validated for the AMD Helios cabinet-scale solution. This solution, aimed at facilitating the deployment timeline of artificial intelligence factories, seeks to contribute to the faster, lower-risk and less complex implementation of high-density artificial intelligence infrastructures.

The reference design, one of the important outputs of the collaboration between Schneider Electric and AMD, addresses the high processing power required by artificial intelligence workloads, advanced cooling systems, energy management and digital infrastructure needs with a comprehensive approach.

The new design was developed for high-density artificial intelligence applications in the Helios cabinet-scale solution supported by AMD Instinct™ MI455X GPUs, 6th Generation AMD EPYC™ CPUs, AMD Pensando™ Vulcano NICs and the open ROCm™ software ecosystem.

With the rapid growth of artificial intelligence applications, data centers face increasingly higher power density, advanced thermal management and complex infrastructure requirements. The reference design developed by Schneider Electric and AMD aims to accelerate planning and deployment timelines by providing data center operators and architects with a tested, validated and scalable infrastructure approach.

Power, Cooling and Digital Management Combined in Artificial Intelligence Infrastructures
The reference design covers four fundamental areas critical to the creation of artificial intelligence-ready data centers:

Facility power infrastructure
Facility cooling infrastructure
IT area design
Digital solutions for lifecycle management

Manish Kumar, Vice President of Schneider Electric Secure Power and Data Centers, commented on the collaboration:

"Organizations need validated, scalable and artificial intelligence-ready solutions to deploy artificial intelligence infrastructures faster and with lower risk. Through our collaboration with AMD, we are providing an engineering-focused reference design that brings together advanced artificial intelligence platforms, our energy technologies and real-world data center applications. This approach will help our customers build high-density artificial intelligence environments more safely, efficiently and quickly."

Forrest Norrod, Vice President and General Manager of AMD Data Center Solutions Business Group, stated:

"Artificial intelligence infrastructures are now transforming into full-scale artificial intelligence factories. This transformation requires computing, networking, power and cooling systems to be designed together. The reference design we developed with Schneider Electric provides our customers with a practical roadmap that can accelerate high-density artificial intelligence deployments, reduce integration risks and enable more efficient scaling."

Supporting Artificial Intelligence Clusters up to 10.4 MW
The new reference design stands out with features that enable the deployment of artificial intelligence infrastructures at different scales. The solution includes:

Modular artificial intelligence clusters with IT capacity up to 10.4 MW
High-density artificial intelligence workloads up to 246 kW per cabinet
Hybrid air and liquid cooling systems
Schneider Electric Motivair liquid cooling solutions
Power and thermal design validated with ETAP and EcoStruxure™ IT Design CFD simulation tools
Electrical Digital Twin technologies
AVEVA Unified Operations Center support
Real-time monitoring and operational visibility in artificial intelligence infrastructures

are offered.

Through the liquid cooling approach developed by Schneider Electric, the effective management of a significant portion of the heat generated in high-density systems is targeted. Additionally, the solution aims to contribute to energy efficiency with a PUE value that can decrease to approximately 1.12 at full load.

New Era for Artificial Intelligence-Ready Data Centers
With the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence technologies, speed, reliability and energy efficiency in data center infrastructures are becoming increasingly critical. Through the joint work of Schneider Electric and AMD, this reference design aims to contribute to the creation of more integrated and scalable infrastructures for the future needs of artificial intelligence factories.

The reference design, whose compliance with ANSI standards has been verified, is planned to be developed to support IEC standards for global applications in the future.
