Bayer Shares Innovative Treatment Strategies for Cardiovascular Diseases

Bayer shared its innovative work in cardiovascular disease spanning more than 120 years at a global press conference held during the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress. The company presented current scientific data and innovative treatment strategies for cardiovascular diseases, particularly heart failure.

Cardiovascular Disease Poses Serious Risk on a Global Scale
Cardiovascular diseases occurring alongside type 2 diabetes, hypertension and chronic kidney disease account for one in three deaths worldwide. Bayer focuses on heart failure, chronic kidney disease and rare cardiovascular diseases, where unmet medical needs are greatest, aiming both to contribute to today's healthcare systems and to transform future treatment standards.

Heart Failure: A Growing Global Burden

Heart failure, which occurs when the heart cannot pump sufficient blood to tissues and organs, affects more than 64 million people worldwide. Research shows that one in five people faces a lifetime risk of developing heart failure.

This disease:

• Is the most common reason for hospitalization in individuals over 65 years of age
• Creates an annual economic burden of USD 346 billion on global healthcare systems
• Presents a serious public health problem with mortality rates reaching 30% in the first year after diagnosis and 40% within five years

Dizziness, shortness of breath, chronic fatigue, sleep disturbance, leg swelling and chest discomfort are among the main symptoms.
