Eti Alüminyum Launches Three New Solar Power Plant Projects Under 'Green Production' Strategy

Eti Alüminyum, which meets 10% of Türkiye's aluminum needs, sources the energy it uses in production from renewable sources. The company, which has already planned the energy needs of the rolling mill it aims to bring online next year, has taken steps to add 3 new solar power plants to its existing 4 solar power plants.

Eti Aluminium, which meets 10% of Turkey's aluminium demand, sources the energy it uses in production from renewable sources. The company is planning the energy requirements of its rolling mill, which it plans to put into operation next year, and has taken steps to add 3 new solar power plants to its current 4 solar energy facilities.

Operating as a global brand under the Cengiz Holding umbrella, Eti Aluminium continues its investments with a 'green aluminium' strategy. The company, which shows great attention to sourcing energy used in production from renewable sources, is also planning the energy requirements of its ongoing projects in advance. Within this scope, the company, which currently owns 4 solar power plants with a total capacity of 163 MW in Seydişehir where its integrated production facilities are located, will make 3 new solar power plant investments in Gaziantep, Sivas and Çumra to meet the energy needs of its rolling mill, which it plans to put into operation in the first quarter of the year.

'OUR INSTALLED SOLAR CAPACITY WILL REACH 334 MW'
Mehmet Arkan, General Manager of Eti Aluminium, who met with the Konya local press at the company's traditional iftar dinner, stated that they are a large family of 1,600 people, saying "We have an annual production capacity of 82 thousand tonnes. Thanks to this production capacity, we prevent 300 million dollars of imports every year. Eti Aluminium's Seydişehir Facility, which has witnessed Turkey's half-century history, has been operating under the Cengiz Holding umbrella since 2005. Our capacity increases and technology investments in Konya over the last 20 years have exceeded 700 million dollars. Today we meet 10% of our country's aluminium demand while continuing our investments without interruption."

Arkan stated that 'Green Aluminium', which the global aluminium sector has only recently begun to discuss, has been among the company's priority goals for the last 5 years, saying "We source the electricity we use in production entirely from renewable energy sources. Following our hydroelectric power plant in Oymapınar, we built 4 solar power plants in Seydişehir. In line with our ongoing rolling mill investment, we are beginning construction of three new solar power plants. Installation is ongoing in Gaziantep; this will be followed by power plants in Sivas and Çumra." Pointing out that the Gaziantep power plant will be completed in July of this year, Arkan continued: "We plan to put our other two power plants into operation in 2026. When our three power plants, which will consist of a total of 310,000 solar panels, become operational, our installed solar capacity, which is currently 163 MW, will reach 334 MW. We will make a total investment of 87 million dollars for the three power plants."

WILL PRODUCE 100 THOUSAND TONNES OF ROLLED PRODUCTS ANNUALLY
Mehmet Arkan, General Manager of Eti Aluminium, explaining that with the rolling mill investment they will begin producing hot and cold rolled products needed by many strategic sectors, particularly the domestic defence industry, said "In recent years, aluminium rolled product imports in our country have reached 170 thousand tonnes. This means an amount of over approximately 600 million dollars. We have started the rolling mill investment to prevent this; to ensure supply security in strategic sectors such as the defence industry, while being able to produce aluminium rolled products used in aircraft fuselages, as raw material for armour materials and in the shipbuilding industry.

We plan to produce our first products at the new rolling mill, which will be a locomotive of the country's economy, next year. Our facility, which will start with initial production of 100 thousand tonnes, will be able to reach a capacity of 200-250 thousand tonnes later. Thanks to this production capacity, we will increase our contribution to closing the current account deficit in the coming years and ensure that 350 million dollars remains in Turkey."
