Interview with Mustafa Yılmazer, General Manager of JUMO Türkiye

JUMO was established in Germany in 1948 and has been operating in Turkey since 2008. In the interview we conducted, JUMO Turkey General Manager Mustafa Yılmazer provided information about JUMO's extensive product range.

Could you briefly tell our readers about yourself, your educational background and professional experience?

I graduated from Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in 1993. Before PLCs and servo motors came into use, I was interested in automation methods using mechanical techniques. I left my robotics master's programme at its final stage when I decided to enter professional life. Between 1995-2000, I worked as a technical consultant at Festo. From 2000 to 2008, I held management positions in sales, business development and marketing departments at Altınay Robotik. JUMO, which conducted its Turkey operations through distributors until 2008, decided to establish a company in Turkey that year and we embarked on this journey together. Since then, I have continued to work as General Manager of JUMO Turkey.

Could you provide information about JUMO's establishment process and the stages it has gone through to reach today? What is JUMO's current structure?

JUMO is a family-owned company that began operations in Germany in 1948. Although the concept of a family company is generally viewed somewhat negatively in Turkey in terms of corporate governance, in Germany it is actually emphasized only to denote the independence of the capital structure. JUMO's first products were generally mercury-filled glass thermometers. In that period, temperature control was also carried out using the same thermometers with metal parts attached to the glass thermometers that conducted electricity by contacting the mercury. Subsequently, with developments in electronics, the company progressed to electronic thermostats, PID control devices, multichannel control devices (mini DCS systems), recorders, and mechanical or electronic thermostats for safety purposes. In addition to these, the measured parameters expanded to include electrical temperature measurement equipment such as Pt100 and thermocouples, pressure transmitters, level measurement sensors, flow meters, CO2 and humidity sensors, and analytical measurement equipment for measuring pH, ORP, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and disinfectants such as chlorine, ozone and peracetic acid, which were also added to the company's portfolio. While JUMO reaches users with its products through its own companies in many countries, it supplies its products to some countries through distributors. JUMO Turkey has been operating since 2008. The sales engineers on staff undergo intensive and continuous training to gain knowledge about products and applications. In this way, we try to increase the quality of the advice and support we provide. Additionally, through our technical service department and technical support departments, we provide support regarding the commissioning and use of products.

Which sectors does JUMO primarily serve and what types of products does it offer? Could you provide information about JUMO's products, brands and services, particularly in the paints and coatings and surface technology fields?

JUMO supplies products used in all areas of production. We provide measurement and control equipment for both automatic machinery operation and to ensure processes run with correct parameters. We can say that there is hardly any production sector we have not entered. In the paints and coatings and surface treatment sectors, we supply all measurement and automation equipment in the cleaning and preparation processes that can be defined as conditioning of surfaces before processing and in the drying processes that follow. We continuously measure and record pH, ORP, conductivity, liquid level, pressure and temperature information in the baths where processing is performed, and consolidate them at a central point. When necessary, if a parameter exceeds a certain threshold value, we alert users and keep them informed. Similarly, we supply the measurement and control equipment required for the automation of drying ovens and, if desired, provide programming services.
