At the official ceremony held in Fellbach near Stuttgart, the award-giving jury, composed of representatives from science and industry, praised the VarioLoc vehicle body conveyor system for its energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. Baden-Württemberg Environment Minister Franz Untersteller, speaking to an audience of 250 representatives from business and politics, highlighted the strong points of the Eisenmann solution, which has been installed in numerous automobile production facilities: "More elegant paint shop technology, lower capital expenditure and energy costs, and less environmental impact." The system reduces cleaning costs by up to 40%, cuts capital expenditure by up to 38%, and reduces maintenance costs by up to 50%. The Environmental Engineering Award has been presented since 2009 (Eisenmann placed second and third that year) and is awarded biennially. Companies based in Baden-Württemberg are honored in four categories. According to Minister Untersteller, it is "one of Germany's most sought-after industrial awards." This year Eisenmann presented the VarioLoc skidless conveyor in the energy efficiency category, helping to establish the foundations of the highly flexible Paint Shop 4.0 of the future. Prof. Thomas Hirth from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), who chaired the six-member jury panel, emphasized that VarioLoc was so strong that it "deserved recognition in more than one category." As a result, VarioLoc was deemed worthy of the highly prestigious Special Award.
