Takeda Signs Largest Merger in Global Pharmaceutical Sector in 18 Years

Takeda has agreed to acquire UK-based pharmaceutical company Shire in a deal valued at USD 62.42 billion, raising its cash offer to USD 30.33 per share. The company is proceeding with its vision of providing innovative medicines to patients with rare diseases, neuroscience, gastroenterology, and oncology wherever they are located. The merger is expected to be completed in the first half of 2019. This significant transaction will position Takeda as one of the world's top 10 pharmaceutical companies and strengthen its growth trajectory. With the addition of Shire's global rare disease portfolio, Takeda will reinforce its innovative medicine portfolio that provides solutions in this field and ensures a healthier, brighter future for patients.

While the integrated company's headquarters will remain in Japan, the company will expand its research and development facilities in Boston and maintain regionally significant positions in Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, and the United States.
