Zorlu Enerji Becomes First Turkish Energy Company to Have Its Water Footprint Calculated and Verified

Zorlu Enerji Grubu continues to shape its sustainability approach by making maximum use of domestic and renewable energy sources, while also documenting the value it delivers to the environment and society through independent certifications it obtains. In line with this vision, Zorlu Enerji, along with Zorlu Jeotermal and Zorlu Doğal, became the first energy companies in Turkey to have their water footprint—which measures the volume of water consumed in the production and consumption of every good and service—calculated and verified by independent bodies. Three companies within the Zorlu Enerji Grubu, which obtained Turkey's first ISO 14046 Water Footprint Certificate in the energy sector, carried out one of the country's pioneering initiatives in water management, verifying once more through independent institutions the value they deliver to nature. Sinan Ak, Chairman of Zorlu Enerji Grubu, shared his thoughts on the matter: "As the first energy company from Turkey to join the 'Carbon Disclosure Project', we have been transparently sharing our carbon footprint with the public every year since 2011, and our water footprint since 2017. As the Group that first implemented the ISO 14064 Greenhouse Gas Calculation and Verification Management System standard in its sector since 2010, we have now obtained the ISO 14046 Water Footprint Certificate, demonstrating once again the value we deliver to nature, the environment and society. Through this certification, we systematically manage the efficient use of water resources and reduction of wastewater across all our facilities. We will begin transparently sharing this performance with the public through the CDP platform. With this project, which we have implemented as a result of consultations with our stakeholders, we aim to raise public awareness about the efficient and economical use of water," he said.
