Rosatom Completes Delivery of Automatic Process Control System for Akkuyu NPP’s Power Unit 1

 

The equipment was manufactured by Rosatom Automation Systems Joint Stock Company (RASU JSC), Rosatom's Automatic Process Control System and Electrical Engineering Division. This system provides monitoring and management of all key parameters of the reactor installation as well as the plant's technological processes. Installation and commissioning of the Automatic Process Control System equipment will be one of the critical phases in bringing Unit 1 into operation.

 

 

Sergei Butckikh, General Director of AKKUYU NUKLEER A.Ş., made the following statement on the matter: "Technological processes in a nuclear power plant require coordinated operation of dozens of primary and auxiliary systems with the unit. This becomes possible thanks to a high level of automation that enables a small number of operating personnel to effectively manage the nuclear power plant. The NPP's automatic process control system presents a complex technical and software solution that provides automation of fundamental technological operations in the power unit systems. Modern units equipped with VVER-1200 reactors are fitted with the latest Automatic Process Control System components. These components were developed on the basis of long-standing experience in the Russian nuclear industry and provide a high degree of operational safety. Currently, highly qualified specialists are completing the installation and adjustment of the Automatic Process Control System equipment as well as its integration with the Unit 1 infrastructure."

 

The delivery to the Akkuyu NPP site consists of 42,000 pieces of equipment with a total weight of 555 tons. Among this equipment are control cabinets, controllers, information processing modules and auxiliary components necessary for the operation of the Automatic Process Control System and reactor protection control system.

 

At Unit 1 of Akkuyu NPP, a large portion of the control and safety systems required for cold and hot tests of the reactor installation have been installed to date. These operations are of major significance for the complete connection of unit systems and the subsequent main commissioning phase.
