"İSO Yaşam Kenti" Being Established

Istanbul Chamber of Industry (İSO) is preparing to establish an "İSO Life City" to provide strong and lasting support for the return to normal life in the earthquake-affected region, with the first phase involving the construction of a city of 1,000 containers. According to the announcement, İSO mobilized its 23,000 members from the first day of the earthquake and delivered aid to those in need in the disaster area as quickly as possible through assistance efforts launched under the coordination of the Istanbul Governorate, AFAD and its umbrella organization TOBB. The containers to be built to share the pain of the extraordinary disaster in solidarity will have two rooms, a kitchen, and toilet-bathroom facilities to contribute durably to shelter needs in the region.

Erdal Bahçıvan, Chairman of the İSO Board of Management, shared the following information:

"As a country, we are trying to share the pain of an extraordinary disaster together, and as İSO, we are continuing our assistance efforts for our citizens from the first hours of the earthquake, together with all our members, with a mobilization understanding. Our three days spent in the earthquake zone to determine what is necessary for this work to be done correctly and urgently showed us that our citizens' greatest need is durable shelter and a container city. In this context, we have begun work on establishing an 'İSO Life City' with the contributions of all our members, and our work before the construction of this city has reached the completion stage. Our discussions with relevant authorities at the highest level regarding the city and land where the İSO Life City will be established are ongoing to be concluded in the shortest time. I would like to say that not only our members, but also our friends from within and outside the country can contribute to the establishment of this life city. On this occasion, I sincerely believe that together we will continue to heal the wounds of this great pain in strong solidarity."  

Aid to earthquake victims continues

According to the information provided, İSO collected numerous products ranging from generators to blankets, from shoes to clothing, from bottled stoves to hygiene products, from food to cleaning products at two centers it established on the European and Anatolian sides of Istanbul, and sent these products to the disaster area in 18 trucks during the first three days of the earthquake. Relief supplies sent to the earthquake zone, particularly to Hatay, Adıyaman and Malatya, were distributed to those in need through AFAD and chambers of commerce and industry under the direction of local administrative officials. İSO also announced that it will continue and increase its assistance so that citizens living in the earthquake zone can get through these difficult days with as little hardship as possible, in line with the needs that will arise in the region.   Source
