During the past year, Henkel continued to make progress in implementing its sustainability strategy. In the area of packaging, plastic became one of the most important focal points for the company's ambitious targets for developing a sustainable and circular economy. Kathrin Menges, Vice President of Human Resources and Chair of the Sustainability Council at Henkel, stated: "Sustainability has long been the top priority for Henkel. Today, we are reporting for the 28th time on our progress in creating value while reducing resource consumption. To date, with significant assistance from our partners, we have successfully advanced many projects, initiatives and activities." Henkel aims to create greater value for customers and consumers, the communities in which it operates, and the company itself by 2030, while reducing its environmental footprint to contribute to sustainable development. In this context, Henkel actively supports the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015. Overall, the company increased its total productivity by 43% compared to the baseline year of 2010, supported by operations across all regions worldwide. Henkel aims to increase resource productivity by 75% by 2020. To make progress in the area of packaging, Henkel is focusing on increasing the use of recycled materials, as well as reducing the amount of materials used and reusing those materials. As part of its new packaging strategy, the company aims to make 100% of its packaging recyclable by 2025. This target was achieved in more than 80% of packaging as of end of 2018. Additionally, Henkel aims to use 35% recycled plastic in the packaging of consumer products in Europe by 2025. This target was approximately 10% achieved as of end of 2018.
