Clariant Publishes ColorForward 2020

In recent years, while consumer preferences have shifted towards warmer tones, Clariant colour trend observers predict that the palette they developed for 2020 will mark a return to cooler blues and greens. In fact, five of the twenty colours in the latest edition of ColorForward are different shades of green. Some of these have a real and natural appearance, while others look more artificial or 'digital'. ColorWorks^® Designer and one of the leaders of the ColorForward team, Judith van Vliet, says, "This does not mean there is no warmth in the trend colours of 2020, of course." "There are reds, yellows and even a few oranges. These are rather bright tones, often prepared with semi-transparent or special-effect pigments." she said. The ColorForward workshop was held this year at the Clariant ColorWorks centre in Singapore. The ColorWorks team, made up of Clariant experts, has been meeting annually since 2006. The team gathered to carry out a week-long series of creative work focused on identifying four general trend themes expected to influence consumers in the short and medium term, and on selecting colours or colour combinations that evoke an emotional response for each trend. As a result of this work, a unique tool was developed that can help plastic product designers and marketing professionals make more informed colour choices.
