Danfoss Continues Energy Efficiency Efforts

Danfoss, together with Danish energy company Synergi, hosted a high-level roundtable discussion on energy efficiency as part of Nordic Clean Energy Week 2018 in Copenhagen and Malmö. The meeting included Danfoss CEO Kim Fausing, International Energy Agency (IEA) Director of Energy Efficiency Brian Motherway, Ian Crosby from Sustainable Energy for All (SEforAll), President of European Energy Services Association (EU-ASE) Monica Frassoni, Danish Minister of Finance Kristian Jensen, Leader of the Danish Socialist Party and Former Minister Pia Olsen Dyhr, CEO of Danish Confederation of Industry (DI) Karsten Dybvad, Senior Vice President of Rockwool Henrik Frank Nielsen, Velux Group Director and CFO Peter Bang, and Christian Noll from German energy efficiency organization DENEFF. The roundtable was moderated by Steven Erlanger, Europe Diplomatic Correspondent for The New York Times. In his remarks at the roundtable, Danfoss CEO Kim Fausing said: "We had a wonderful exchange of ideas. It is very encouraging to hear that we are on the right track when it comes to the interconnected topics of energy efficiency and renewable energy. The energy efficiency sector does not need subsidies, but it does require good policies that support energy efficiency. We know that energy efficiency is an excellent business model and it goes hand in hand with the green transition. Ultimately, the best energy is the energy we do not use." Brian Motherway, Director of Energy Efficiency at the International Energy Agency (IEA), said there is considerable potential in energy efficiency. Motherway continued: "Energy efficiency serves as a tool in many areas. It makes our economies more competitive and creates new jobs and employment. People living in energy-efficient homes are healthier, while children learning in energy-saving schools learn better. People working in energy-efficient buildings are more productive. Our goal is to achieve all these benefits of energy efficiency." Ian Crosby, Head of Energy Efficiency and Cooling at SEforAll, said: "We must act today with the best technology available to combat climate change." Another speaker, Pia Olsen Dyhr, said: "We have great potential to improve the energy performance of existing buildings. We need new technologies to drive this development and the industry must support it." Danish Minister of Finance Kristian Jensen said that Denmark has succeeded in decoupling growth from energy consumption and that growth is needed to have the power to fight for global climate goals.
