LANXESS Thermoplastic Composites Used in Audi A8 Rear Seat Cover
LANXESS (Cologne, Germany) announced that Tepex continuous fiber-reinforced composites are being used in rear seat applications for Audi A8 vehicles.
The sedan automobile features two separate rear seat options with covers developed by Faurecia Automotive Seating (Stadthagen, Germany) and produced using a hybrid molding process with electric adjustment capability.
Polyamide-6-based Tepex Dynalite 102-RG600 (2)/%47 is used for this purpose. Short glass fiber-reinforced Durethan BKV30H2.0 Polyamide 6, also developed by LANXESS, is used as an overmolded material.
LANXESS presents this application as an example of how Tepex continuous fiber-reinforced composites are beginning to take root in large-scale production of various structural components for lightweight automotive design.
