The latest data shows that the number of electric vehicles has reached an all-time high, surpassing the 250,000 mark. Emrah Gökmen, Deputy General Manager of Elementary Individual Insurance at Allianz Türkiye, said the company is encouraging this transformation with a comprehensive motor own-damage (kasko) insurance product for electric vehicle owners, noting that they continue to expand their portfolio and offer products supporting the low-carbon economy with the sector's first sustainable product-certified motor own-damage insurance.
Turkey's automotive sector is undergoing rapid electrification. Latest data shows the number of electric vehicles has reached an all-time high, surpassing the 250,000 threshold. Emrah Gökmen, Deputy General Manager of Elementary Individual Insurance at Allianz Turkey, said they are encouraging this transformation with a comprehensive motor insurance product for electric vehicle owners, and noted they continue to expand their portfolio with the sector's first sustainability-certified motor insurance product alongside products supporting a low-carbon economy.
Global demand for electric vehicles is rising. In Turkey too, recent reports and data shared by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) and Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) indicate the electric vehicle transformation is continuing with accelerating momentum—from the number of electric vehicles to charging infrastructure. According to the "Charging Service Market Monthly Statistics – June 2025" report published by EPDK, the total number of electric vehicles in Turkey surpassed the 250,000 threshold for the first time by end of June, reaching 268,000. This figure represents approximately 44 percent growth compared to the same period last year. According to TÜİK data, the number of registered electric cars in traffic showed approximately 117 percent growth as of end of June compared to the same month last year.
Rising demand for electric vehicles is bringing about significant transformations not only in the automotive sector but in many other sectors. Allianz Turkey, which has pioneered the insurance sector's transformation through products and solutions supporting the transition to sustainable living, provides comprehensive coverage with its electric vehicle motor insurance product that also protects the charging equipment and battery of electric cars and vans.
On-site charging service for electric vehicles running low on charge on the road
Allianz Electric Vehicle Motor Insurance helps reduce environmental impact through advantages such as digital policy presentation available in all motor insurance solutions offered by Allianz and pre-severe weather alerts. Additionally, it covers damage to the wall box in the wall-type charging unit of the electric car and the induction plate, as well as the charging cable and adapter inside the vehicle caused by accident, theft or rodent damage. Coverage includes accidents to the insured or third parties caused by the charging cable during vehicle charging, and provides on-site charging service when the vehicle's battery charge level drops to 15 percent or below while driving. In this case, a mobile charging vehicle is dispatched, charging the vehicle approximately 10 kW (approximately 50 km range) and providing charging support to enable it to reach the nearest charging station.
Electric Vehicle Motor Insurance includes coverage for vehicle electronics problems resulting from direct hacker attacks targeting the vehicle and accidents caused by these problems, while also protecting against damage to the vehicle's electronics caused by electric current from weather events such as lightning and storms.
"We support sustainable living with the sector's first sustainability-certified motor insurance product"
Emrah Gökmen, Deputy General Manager of Elementary Individual Insurance at Allianz Turkey, said he is pleased about the rapidly growing numbers of electric vehicles on Turkey's roads, and expressed that they stand beside electric vehicle owners with solutions that encourage and support this trend. Gökmen stated: "As Allianz Turkey, we are pioneering our sector and continue to offer our customers products that support a low-carbon economy and promote sustainable living. To our portfolio consisting of products such as our Home insurance supporting sustainable transformation, renewable energy insurance, and roof-type solar panel insurance—a first in Turkey—we added electric vehicle motor insurance two years ago. Additionally, for our customers supporting sustainability with electric vehicles, we are backing their journey with our sustainability-certified motor insurance product, which meets all requirements of EU Taxonomy criteria, setting a first in our sector. Our sustainability-certified motor insurance product provides many advantages to electric vehicle owners in the field of sustainability," he said.
Approximately 20 percent of vehicle fleet is electric
Allianz Turkey, whose vehicle fleet comprises 47.3 percent hybrid and 19.1 percent electric vehicles, aims to convert its entire fleet to electric by 2030. Additionally, the company uses 100 percent renewable electricity at all its centers and office buildings.
