Internet of Things: IoT Technologies The Internet of Things, abbreviated as IoT, refers to the interconnection of virtually any object via the internet to communicate with each other. The Internet of Things, as a general definition of this technology, essentially encompasses a communication network. In this communication network, objects communicate with each other over the internet through embedded sensors, added software or other technologies, and share data. This network technology is called IoT (Internet of Things). This system, which integrates everyday devices such as toothbrushes and vacuum cleaners into the internet, is considered to have its first example in a Coca-Cola machine developed at Carnegie Melon University. However, the concept of "IoT" was first used by Kevin Ashton in a presentation in 1999, thereby developing this concept. As technology evolved over time, IoT technologies also developed proportionally. We began adding the word "smart" to every device, and these remotely accessible devices made our lives easier. Now when we wake up in the morning, our smart coffee machine has our coffee ready, or we can clean our house with a robot vacuum that we can access remotely. With countless examples like these, IoT technologies have brought about changes not only in daily life but also in industry. Many technologies currently in use have actually emerged thanks to this network described by the concept of the "Internet of Things." In an increasingly interconnected world, IoT has become a transformative force across sectors. By enabling devices to communicate, collect data and exchange information, IoT provides unprecedented levels of efficiency, automation and innovation. From manufacturing to healthcare, from agriculture to transportation, IoT is reshaping sectors in ways that were once unimaginable.

IoT Technologies in Manufacturing

Manufacturing is one of the sectors where IoT is most prominently used. Particularly through sensors attached to machines, performance and efficiency can be monitored in real time. We can use many concepts for these technologies such as artificial intelligence, sensor technology, automation, but the most important development that enables this is actually IoT. The use of IoT in manufacturing provides manufacturers with a number of benefits. The benefits of IoT to manufacturing processes can be listed as follows: • It enables more accurate observation by allowing real-time monitoring of performance. • Through automation and data-driven monitoring, previously identified problems can be eliminated, productivity increases and downtime is minimized. • Resource allocation is done more accurately and thereby waste is reduced, costs can be lowered. • It facilitates the transition to smart factories dominated by machines. • The condition of equipment can be more easily monitored and thus maintenance schedules can be more easily determined. • Continuous data flow can reduce the workload on employees, making production control easier.

IoT in Logistics

IoT also offers many advantages to industry in terms of logistics. It provides the logistics sector with many benefits such as route optimization and supply chain management. Particularly through IoT-enabled sensors in cargo containers, vehicles and warehouses, information about the condition, movement and location of goods can be obtained instantly and movements can be monitored. This provides real-time tracking capability, which leads to shorter delivery times, better resource utilization, and accurate real-time forecasts.
Retail
Another sector affected by IoT technologies is retail. Here it improves customer experience, manages inventory and reduces operational costs. Weight sensors can also be placed on shelves, and sensors that detect a drop in shelf weight can alert about inventory depletion.
Smart Cities
As mentioned above, IoT has enabled the creation of a series of technologies and the development of smarter devices. IoT, strengthened through sensors, software and other technologies, also enables the establishment of smart cities. The concept of smart cities largely depends on IoT technologies to improve urban life and increases quality of life. In smart cities built with IoT technologies, IoT sensors monitor air and water quality, noise levels and traffic flow, thereby enabling city planners to make arrangements and decisions that increase sustainability and efficiency. While IoT has positive outcomes, there are also concerns related to privacy and security with these technologies. A breach in these systems can lead to far-reaching consequences. Additionally, since IoT stores large volumes of data, the compilation, storage and analysis of this data can be difficult. However, IoT is still crucial for running different systems together and for seamless communication and integration. IoT is essentially an important technology that has resulted from humanity's quest for innovation since a Cola machine to today. With smart cities and smart industrial systems, IoT has transformed the way we interact with technology and the world around us. Just as it has changed the way we communicate with objects, IoT technologies have initiated a new era of innovation and created a transformation across all sectors. As important steps are taken to address potential security concerns, IoT will become an even more important technology for future years. IoT is shaping sectors while providing exciting possibilities for the future, in a world that is communicative, data-driven and sustainable.   Source https://aws.amazon.com/tr/what-is/iot/, https://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nesnelerin_interneti, https://www.oracle.com/tr/internet-of-things/what-is-iot/, https://ateam. global/blog/iot-in-manufacturing-industry/, https://www.iienstitu.com/blog/nesnelerin-interneti-iot-ornekleri-nelerdir
