Innovative Water- and Solvent-Based Paints

The European Union has implemented restrictions on chemicals to protect the environment and human health from harmful effects caused by chemical substances. These restrictions aim to limit or eliminate human and environmental exposure to substances harmful to varying degrees. Chemicals subject to these restrictions include:

Heavy Metals

When absorbed into the body through ingestion, inhalation or skin contact, they accumulate in the body and are suspected of causing serious illnesses (thyroid diseases, neurological diseases, autism and infertility) that result in metabolic disruption and even death.

Phthalates

They cause birth defects, hyperactivity, infertility, premature puberty, asthma, obesity and cancers and other diseases.

PAH, MAK, OPP and NPEO

They cause carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic effects and harm the aquatic environment.

İnterplast Kimya Research and Development Centre

By examining all restricted chemicals, it has synthesized pigment pastes that respect the environment, nature and people. The dispersion effects of water and solvent-based paints and their wettability capacity are determined according to Young's equation: γs= γsl + γlx.cosθ The surface tension energy of the liquid was designed to be higher than the surface tension energy of the pigment. According to this designed formulation, the interaction between pigment particles was reduced through Van der Waals forces and agglomeration formation was prevented.

Steric/Electrostatic Stabilization

Paints composed of chemical components with different structures, which contain cationic/anionic structures in water-based formulas, were provided with permanent stabilization through the nonionic chemical structure created on the surface by the İnterplast Kimya Research and Development Centre project, emphasizing steric and electrostatic stabilization. One of the most important effects of stabilization is ensuring stable interaction between pigment particles, thereby preventing flocculation problems. Through the Research and Development Centre project, the newly developed COLANEX Series pigment pastes free from restricted chemicals are being introduced to the market in water and solvent-based formulations. Due to the strong binding structure of COLANEX Series products, they are resistant to chemicals (DMF, MEK, alcohol derivatives, etc.) and show stable structure in acidic and alkaline environments. COLANEX Series products have particle sizes smaller than 10 micrometers, enabling short-term mixture preparation and easy processability. COLANEX Series products are compatible with plasticizers and engineering resins. COLANEX Series products can be used in systems containing plasticizers, polyurethane and acrylic for processes involving film formation and micro-pore formation processes.

Solvent-based pigment paste paints for acrylic coatings, polyurethane coatings and PVC coating systems containing plasticizers: • Providing easy dispersion, • Providing permanent stabilization, • Having high hiding power, • Free of PAH, MAK, OPP and NPEO, • Having high tinting strength, • Preventing agglomeration formation. COLANEX W Series Water-based pigment paste paints for water-based applications of polyurethane and acrylic systems: • Providing easy dispersion, • Preventing agglomeration formation, • Having high tinting strength, • Low micron range, • Free of PAH, MAK, OPP and NPEO.
