Literatür Kimya Produces Turkey's First Carbon Fiber – SMC

In 2003, Literatür Kimya was established in the composites sector to manufacture thermoset molding compounds. The company continues its operations in Balıkesir Organized Industrial Zone, with 10,000 m² of open area and 3,000 m² of closed space. (BMC: Bulk Molding Compound & SMC: Sheet Molding Compound) In response to rising demand alongside the growing sector, Literatür Kimya has added hydraulic presses and thermoset injection machines to its raw material production processes, serving customers' finished product needs on a project and contract manufacturing basis. With 11 hydraulic presses ranging from 80 to 800 tons and 2 thermoset injection units, Literatür Kimya operates as a reliable solution partner that reduces production burden and ranks among the leading establishments in the composites sector. Prioritizing technology and quality in its investments, Literatür Kimya entered thermoset injection production in 2015 and began serving the automotive and electrical sectors by adding Krauss Maffei Injection Machines to its molding fleet. In 2016, the company made a second SMC machine investment as Schmidt & Heinzmann to produce high-quality SMC and serves the automotive sector with Class A formulations. In 2019, it constructed its new building with Literline, Literatür Kimya's first product for which it obtained a patent in 2018. Literline, with a self-supporting structure that requires no columns, beams, or profiles for support, is assembled using flanged and bolted screws and leads the way toward a faster, simpler, and more robust period in roofing systems. Without slowing down its R&D activities in line with sectoral needs, Literatür Kimya successfully developed SMC formulations in 2018 that meet EN 45545 (Fire Protection on Railway Vehicles) standards. EN 45545 emerged in Europe due to different standard practices among countries and the requirement that vehicles operating between countries comply with a common standard. In August 2019, Literatür Kimya conducted the first trial of CF-SMC (Carbon Fiber SMC) thermoset molding compound in Turkey and completed its testing and analysis by the end of 2019, making Epoxy Carbon SMC, Urethane Carbon SMC, and Vinyl Ester Carbon SMC raw materials available to customers.
