Various Causative Factors in Vaginal Disorders Throughout women's lives, various factors can affect vaginal health. These factors can damage the fragile system of vaginal microflora, and as a result, can affect women's quality of life. Among these factors we can mention hormonal changes, antibiotics, fatigue, stress, and age.

Vaginal Disorders (Dysbiosis) and Microflora Imbalances

1- Endogenous factors can cause vaginal discharge. This creates a favorable environment for opportunistic pathogens. 2- Candida albicans adheres to the vaginal epithelium and transitions to pathogenic form (hyphal). 3- SAP production = Contains enzymes that play a role in inflammation. 4- Parallel development of pathogenic bacteria (e.g., Gardnerella vaginalis). 5- Beginning of vaginal epithelial and mucus damage = Infection.

For these reasons, itching, burning, changes in odor, redness, and bacterial infections occur.

Vaginal Infections as a Common Topic Today

Vaginal infections are divided into two categories: "bacterial vaginosis" and "candidal vulvovaginitis." Bacterial vaginosis is a vaginal infection caused by Gardnerella vaginalis and affects at least 16% of women at least once. Candidal vulvovaginitis is a vaginal infection caused by Candida albicans, one of the most frequently recurring pathogens. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's 2015 Treatment Guidelines for Sexually Transmitted Infections, at least 75% of women have been affected by vulvovaginal candidiasis. Symptoms of the disease progressed in 50% to 40% of women, and 8% to 4% have vulvovaginal candidiasis. Globally, 138 million women have been affected by this disease. Quatreflora™Biotic Offering an innovative and natural solution, the active ingredient of Quatreflora™Biotic is the patented and registered Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-3856 probiotic yeast strain. Quatreflora™Biotic is an oral formulation with very easy use; daily recommended dose is 500 mg. Thanks to its proven efficacy, it limits the proliferation of pathogens, reduces the effect of pathogens and inflammation caused by vaginal infection, protects vaginal tissue by creating a barrier, is effective especially in dealing with vaginal infections caused by Candida albicans and Gardnerella vaginalis, prevents recurrence of vaginal infections. Mechanism of Action Mechanism of Action

With Quatreflora™ Biotic;

1. It creates a barrier in the vaginal epithelium. 2. Accelerates the accumulation of C. albicans bacteria in the body and the clearing of this bacterium. 3. Suppresses pathogen formation. 4. Prevents the occurrence and recurrence of vaginal infections.

Antifungal Activity and Mechanism of Action

According to data from July 2016 Virulence publications, Saccharomyces cerevisiae-based compounds, particularly the CNCM I-3856 strain, show beneficial therapeutic effects on widely distributed vaginal mucosal infections. This data also shows for the first time that S. cerevisiae-based probiotic has an inhibitory effect on Gardnerella vaginalis infection. In this study, S. cerevisiae was found to have strong capacity in fighting G. vaginalis-induced infection, and its efficacy was compared with L. crispatus bacteria, known as a probiotic in treating bacterial flora imbalance. Quatreflora™Biotic with its special Saccharomyces cerevisiae-based content not only physically disrupts C. albicans epithelial colonization but also has an anti-inflammatory effect while fighting the pathogen.

Quatreflora™ Biotic Clinical Study

To investigate whether Quatreflora™ Biotic would increase efficacy in conventional drug treatment against vaginal candidiasis, a placebo-controlled pilot clinical study was conducted in France with 22 female volunteers suffering from vaginal candidiasis. This 56-day study resulted in the following data. 1. In the 0 to 7-day interval in the first period, treatment is effective for both groups. 2. Although the efficacy period of treatment is limited in the first period, infection recurs in the placebo group after 7 days. In the 2nd and 3rd periods, Quatreflora™Biotic reduces the risk of recurrence while controlling the spread of C. albicans.

Quatreflora™Med:

Contains registered Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-3856 dried yeast strain. Quatreflora™Med, in the medical device class, has a recommended daily intake of 400 mg with local application. While Quatreflora™Med protects the vaginal epithelium by creating a barrier, it limits the growth and reproduction of pathogens. Its efficacy has been proven through clinical studies conducted on mice by the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Perugia in Italy. The product, whose benefits and effects are supported by scientific articles, offers a side-effect-free, natural and reliable solution in the treatment of vaginal infections. It complies with the European New Medical Device Regulation. Author - Elçim Ayşakar - Sales Engineer - Life Sciences Department
