LANXESS Launches Certified Polyurethane Foam System ISOFOAM RM 120W for Lifeboats

Polyurethane raw materials have found their place in virtually every area of life today, from textiles to electronics, from defense industry to medical applications. Polyurethane systems offer the possibility of use in various fields in the marine industry with their insulation, easy shapability and flame-retardant properties. At the same time, polyurethane resins demonstrate resistance to water, air, corrosion, oil, friction and other mechanical effects thanks to their chemical properties. LANXESS's ISOFOAM rigid and FLEXOCEL flexible and integral skin foam systems produce foams with varying density, hardness and surface properties that meet the widest spectrum of flexible, semi-flexible and rigid foam applications. Rigid polyurethane ISOFOAM RM 120W is a two-component MDI polyurethane system consisting of isocyanate and resin. It is used for shaping by pouring into closed molds or for producing rigid foam by injecting into spaces to be insulated.

ISOFOAM RM 120W is designed for use in both high and low pressure polyurethane casting machines. This feature allows users with polyurethane casting machines to use this product without investing in a different type of machine. Due to its very high closed-cell structure, ISOFOAM RM 120W is quite resistant to water absorption. The foam's water and solvent resistance make it nearly impermeable to extreme temperatures, rain, snow, ice or frequent spray irrigation, and it demonstrates mechanical strength. It works without any structural degradation over a wide temperature range. Rigid polyurethane foam materials provide noise and thermal insulation to boats with the advantage of being lightweight. In small boats, it is desired to reduce noise from motor systems. Rigid polyurethane foam can dampen sound waves within its structure. Due to its hydrolytic stability, strong resistance to algae and fungal growth and buoyancy capability, it is widely used in marine applications.
