Flokser Kimya Integral Polyurethane Systems Developed for the Automotive Industry
Polyurethane, formed from the reaction of polyol and isocyanate, exhibits different physical properties depending on the additives and fillers it contains. For this reason, its field of application is quite broad and many products suited to customer needs can be produced.
Flexible foams, rigid and semi-rigid foams, adhesives, coatings, elastomers and TPU (thermoplastic polyurethanes) can be listed as different polyurethane types.
Flexible sponge systems are generally grouped as seat and mattress sponges, viscoelastic sponges, filters and integral systems. In the automotive sector, where continuous lightweighting and insulation efforts are being conducted, integral systems in particular can respond very effectively and quickly.
Integral systems, which have a hard skin layer on the outside and a softer sponge structure on the inside, easily provide desired strength and physical properties, and have become a preferable product for the automotive sector due to their light weight resulting from their structure. Furthermore, integral systems, which are also used in the production of composite products, are increasingly becoming an alternative to many products used in automotive applications.
Integral systems obtained by using different physical and chemical blowing agents have a molded density in the range of 200–500 kg/m³ on average, ShoreA values in the range of 30–80, and a smooth surface with high tear resistance.
Due to these properties, they are used in the automotive sector in the production of steering wheels, gear shift knobs, armrests, boot lids and floor pans, fenders, and control panels. As the Flokser Kimya family, we develop products that meet the needs of the automotive sector through our integral systems product group.
Integral systems are divided into two categories based on the blowing agents used: products containing physical blowing agents and those containing chemical blowing agents. Our systems containing chemical blowing agents, Creapol INT 6210/180 and Creapol INT 6210/190, have low ShoreA values.
Particularly due to their ShoreA values, they are used in the production of armrests, insulation parts, partition pieces and interior trim products. Technical information for the products is shown in Table 1.

Some of our systems with physical blowing agents are Creapol INT 6140/140 and Creapol INT 6134/175 coded products. These products have high mechanical strength and skin quality and are used in the production of attachment fittings, steering wheels, gear shift knobs and side trim products. Technical information for the products is shown in Table 2.
