In recent years, requirements for mixing systems in industrial applications have increased considerably. Impeller design, selection of an appropriate mixing system, and arrangement of components on the mixer have a decisive effect on process engineering and mechanical properties. Mixing systems vary depending on the viscosity and density of the product. The constructive structure of the designed machine is built according to high-speed or heavy-duty mixers, and engineering calculations are performed accordingly.

HOW SHOULD IMPELLER SELECTION BE MADE?

Impellers used in high-speed machines, mixers or in other industry terminology mixing blades, can be of many different types. To achieve an ideal mixture, the mixing impeller diameter should be 1/3 of the production vessel diameter. Selection of impeller diameter is proportional to the motor power of the mixer machine, maximum mixing speed, and production vessel diameter. An incorrectly selected impeller leads to failure of dispersion and extension of the production process.

WHAT IS DISPERSION?

Dispersion is a process that begins when any point on the impeller travels 19 metres per second and continues until it travels 25 metres per second. During this process, particle fragmentation occurs at nano scale. Outside this process, only a homogeneous mixture can be obtained. The peripheral speed required for dispersion is proportional to the impeller diameter and the impeller rotation speed. The peripheral speed achieved by a small-diameter impeller rotating rapidly is the same as the peripheral speed achieved by a large-diameter impeller rotating slowly.
