Taurine and Health

Taurine is an amino acid found predominantly in mammals. It is generally believed to be synthesized in muscles and it is true that it enhances muscle performance, but it is also found in nutritionally rich foods such as milk. Breast milk contains 42 particles per million of taurine, while cow's milk contains 2.4 particles per million of taurine. As these figures demonstrate, taurine used in the correct amounts is certainly not harmful to health. In August 2016, a group of researchers published highly promising results regarding the positive effects of taurine on health. According to an article published in Cosmetic Design, in a survey conducted in the United Kingdom, 40% of respondents stated that beauty products that revitalize the skin in a manner similar to how a cup of coffee helps us start the day energized would capture their interest. Consumers are curious and eager about the possibility of creating energy-providing beauty products with taurine. While many products on the market use synthetic taurine, Codif Laboratories has succeeded in developing a plant-based taurine extract. Only a few red algae in the plant kingdom can synthesize taurine. In these plants, taurine serves as protection against osmotic effects and plays a role in calcium transfer. This explains the high taurine concentration found in Jania Rubens calcified algae.
