Densurf Product Group and Heat-Resistant Resins

In paint production technologies, silicone-based polymers are frequently used in water and solvent-based systems to enhance paint properties or remedy potential issues.

Applications of silicones in paint formulations

• DENSURF HR series, silicone resins specially designed as binders for metal paints requiring high-temperature and corrosion resistance, • DENSURF AF series, micro and macro foam suppressants and air release agents developed for different paint types, • DENSURF SM series, silicone-based surface active agents that improve paint surface properties and prevent paint defects, • Silicone-based additives used in synthetic raw material paint production, • Silicone emulsions providing water-repellent properties in interior and exterior facade paints, and silicone resin emulsions preferred in exterior facade paints for breathability of the surface.

High-Temperature Resistance with Silicone Resins

Methyl silicone resins and phenyl/methyl silicone resins are used in solvent-based heat-resistant paint production. They can be applied on surfaces requiring heat and corrosion resistance such as factory chimneys, heaters, furnaces and grills. Certain properties may become prominent depending on the relative abundance of methyl and phenyl groups in the structure of silicone resins. Products in the DENSURF HR product group have been developed for use in solvent-based heat-resistant paint systems. Products in this group are used in paint formulations requiring heat resistance up to 600-650°C. Products in the DENSURF HR product group have been developed for use in solvent-based heat-resistant paint systems. Phenyl/methyl and methyl silicone resins are further divided into two types based on application method: ambient temperature curing and oven curing. Humidity levels in environmental conditions are an important factor in these systems. For application areas where oven curing is not possible, catalyzed systems provide advantages.

DENSURF HR 900 AND DENSURF HR 800

Densurf HR 900 and Densurf HR 800 are compatible with metallic pigments and aromatic solvents. When diluting with aromatic solvents, the addition of 5-10% isobutyl alcohol is recommended. The resin air-dries at room temperature and provides temporary mechanical strength. For permanent mechanical resistance, it should be cured by heating at 150-250°C for 30-60 minutes. Corrosion resistance can be achieved depending on the formulation.

DENSURF HR 700A

Densurf HR 700A is a silicone resin capable of air-drying at room temperature for heat and corrosion-resistant paints. When formulated with appropriate pigments and fillers, it provides 600-650°C temperature resistance and corrosion protection. The product cures at room temperature in the presence of tetrabutyl titanate (TBT) catalyst and atmospheric moisture. Touch-dry time at room temperature is 120-180 minutes, with full cure occurring within 6-7 days, thus providing permanent mechanical resistance. Paints made with furnace-cured resins reach touch-dry level 30 to 60 minutes after application. To ensure the desired thermal resistance and adhesion properties of these paints, they must be cured in a furnace at 150-250°C for a minimum of 30 minutes after reaching touch-dryness. As important as the resin used in high-temperature-resistant paint production are the selected pigments and fillers. The most preferred pigments are aluminum pigments and iron/manganese oxide black pigments.
