CIRPUSINS®
Cirpusins®, derived from the dried rhizomes of Cypreus rotundus, commonly known as nutgrass. It is standardized to contain a minimum of 6% stilbenes. (Identified Stilbenes: Piceatannol, Scirpusin A and Scirpusin B).
Clinical findings have established that Cirpusins® is a safe and effective supplement for managing body weight in obese individuals. Cirpusins® supplementation has brought lipid profiles and biochemical parameters in the body to normal levels.
In a preclinical study conducted on an individual with obesity linked to high fat intake, Cirpusins® resulted in a reduction in body and visceral fat weight, and concurrently lipids, corticosteroids and circulating leptin reached normal values.
In vitro studies have proven that Cirpusins® could significantly inhibit adipogenesis. These statements have not been evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This product is not designed to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate or prevent any disease.
In Vitro, Anti-Adipogenesis Efficacy Test of Cirpusins®
Following Cirpusins® treatment, a dose-dependent reduction in lipid accumulation in 3T3 L1 fibroblast cells was observed without affecting cell viability. The reduction in adipogenesis is associated with decreased levels of the following; • Transcripts for peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ). • Adipocyte protein 2/adipocyte fatty acid binding protein (aP2) (Figure 1). PreclinicalEffects of Cirpusins® in Obese Mice Fed High Fat Diet
Animals (C57/BL6 mice) were initially fed with high fat diet (HFD) for 27 days to induce obesity, and then fed for a further 27 days with Cirpusins® supplementation. Analyses were performed on the animals at the end of 55 days.Findings
• While untreated mice gained 7.84 grams, Cirpusins®-treated mice gained 5.14, 3.95 and 4.34 grams respectively, with reductions in weight gain of 30.1%, 46.3% and 40.9% respectively calculated (results at 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg doses) (Figure 2A). • Depending on Cirpusins® dose, a reduction in both leptin and corticosterone levels was observed (Figures 2B and 2C). • Cirpusins® treatment showed a significant decrease in all lipid parameters such as triglycerides, total cholesterol and VLDL levels. • Cirpusins® supplementation was found to be safe with no reported adverse effects. • Cirpusins® supplementation provided a significant reduction in weight gain while reducing lipid levels. Potential of Cirpusins® Containing Piceatannol, Scirpusin A and Scirpusin B from Rhizomes Against Obesity; Preclinical and Clinical EvaluationsObjective and Study Design
A single-center, randomized, double-blind, parallel group, placebo-controlled pilot study was designed to evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of Cirpusins® over 90 days in 30 obese individuals.Dosage
Subjects were administered Cirpusins® capsule (525 mg) or placebo twice daily, 30 minutes before meals.Findings
• After 90 days, a statistically significant reduction in body weight, body mass index and waist circumference was observed in the Cirpusins® group compared to placebo. • Significant improvement was also seen in serum lipid profiles such as total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, VLDL and HDL cholesterol levels. • Furthermore, Cirpusins® was found to be safe and well tolerated by all subjects (Figure 3).Conclusion
As a result of clinical studies, Cirpusins® has been established as a potent and safe nutritional supplement for managing hypercholesterolemia and obesity in human subjects. Cemile Afacan Sales Engineer / Life Sciences Safic AlcanAdvertisement
