# The Untold Story of Skin Microbiota

However, in some cases the microbiota cannot fully repair itself; the biggest reason for this situation is the lack of appropriate nutrients. Thus the skin becomes unprotected and conditions such as sensitivity, itching, acne and redness are observed. The proven most important strategy for supporting skin microbiota is to strengthen the microbiota. In other words, it is about finding balance by strengthening the microbiota. Prebiotics possess exactly this power. A prebiotic is a nutrient that supports skin microbiota to make the skin calm and optimal. A prebiotic is a bio-selective nutrient that can only be fermented by beneficial skin microbiota and cannot be fermented by harmful or pathogenic microorganisms.
