Carbon blacks are among the oldest products whose manufacture dates back to ancient times. Research today shows that carbon blacks produced by primitive methods (generally by burning wood and animal bones) were used in ancient Chinese, Egyptian and Indian civilizations. In modern terms, industrial production of carbon blacks began in England in the 1900s. Generally, carbon blacks are defined as very fine particulate elementary carbon particles obtained from incomplete combustion of gaseous and liquid hydrocarbons. These particles can range from 20 to 600 nanometers in size. The majority of carbon black production is obtained as a byproduct in special furnaces through complete combustion of natural gases and refined liquid oils. Carbon black particles carried by burning gases are separated from the gases by various separation means and incorporated into the process. Today, carbon blacks are produced through different processes. Among these, the most commonly used production techniques are:

Approximately 80–90% of carbon blacks produced worldwide are used in natural and synthetic rubber production. The main applications of carbon blacks are: printing and ink inks, paints, plastics, natural and synthetic rubber manufacturing. The purpose of using carbon blacks is not only to impart black color. They are used as color pigments in paints, printing inks, thermoplastics and thermoset plastics, and are used as reinforcing fillers in synthetic and natural rubber production. Our products have high tinting strength, blue undertone, optimal dispersion and crushing balance in terms of price and quality. They provide good gloss and high blackness degree (jetness) in the final products to which they are applied. Our CARBONEX group products are mainly used in paints, inks, plastics, PVC, natural/synthetic rubber, artificial leather and fiber dyeing applications.
