High-Efficiency Solution in High-Viscosity Product Dispersion: Butterfly Dissolver Paints and coatings manufacturers routinely employ additives to enhance product quality and performance. Among the various classifications of additives, viscosity increasers occupy an important position. These viscosity-modifying agents, which possess diverse properties and serve different purposes, create a processing challenge: while delivering their intended benefits, they reduce product flowability, making mechanical solid-phase dispersion more difficult. The machinery industry has conducted extensive research to overcome this obstacle. At Yokeş Makina, our literature and field studies have resulted in the DSV-B Series Butterfly Dissolver, which has proven to be the most suitable and efficient equipment—particularly for preparing ultra-high-viscosity, thixotropic, non-flowing, paste-type products, especially those sensitive to heat. The standard machine comprises two main mixing units. A heavy-duty "Butterfly" impeller rotating at the center of the vessel, fitted with edge scrapers, ensures effective mixing of the high-viscosity product. The "Disperser" disk positioned adjacent to the vessel center handles powder feeding during preparation, solids dispersion, and high-speed particle size reduction. Both mixers feature infinitely variable speed control via frequency converter. The machine can optionally be manufactured with a single Butterfly mixer only. All standard equipment on the machine is designed to handle the most demanding mixing and dispersion conditions encountered with high-viscosity products. Various models operating in the 250 L to 1500 L net product volume range are available for use with appropriately sized mobile vessels. As a fully closed system, vacuum can be applied when needed to prevent product contact with air during processing. Machines produced with optional vacuum include an "Automatic Vacuum Control System" as a standard feature. The vacuum value measured electronically from inside the vessel is adjustable to minimum and maximum setpoints via the PLC control system, and the vacuum pump automatically activates and deactivates as the measured vacuum reaches these values. With vacuum maintained at a fixed level in this manner, the machine operator is freed from the need to manually control the vacuum pump. Additionally, since the vacuum pump does not run continuously during processing, energy consumption is reduced. All machine components contacting the product are manufactured from high-surface-quality stainless steel. The standard product preparation vessel supplied with each machine is entirely stainless steel, double-walled, and water-cooled. The interior is completely machined to accommodate discharge via pressing. The upper housing movement and the vessel lid, designed for vacuum operation, are controlled via an electro-hydraulic system. During processing, with the vessel lid closed, the Disperser disk on the Butterfly impeller can rise to the maximum vessel level. This feature enables highly effective mixing and edge scraping. Vessel securing is achieved through a pin-locked and hinged-latch system, allowing safe operation with high-viscosity products. This system ensures both secure vessel fixation during processing and automatic centering of the vessel on the machine shaft with each vessel approach. Our machines are fully PLC-controlled and operated through a functional button and TFT-LCD touchscreen control panel mounted on the machine body. Observable and adjustable process parameters include motor status, total operating and process times (process time is adjustable), product temperature control, vacuum control, and others. Optional product- and customer-specific control systems such as recipe input can be integrated. (Yokeş® Batch Control) Every DSV-B Series machine is delivered as standard with "Complete Electrical Safety Equipment" installed to ensure maximum safe operation during production. Yokeş Butterfly Dissolvers offer a significant advantage compared to other mixer types designed to perform similar tasks. In principle, the most effective dispersion is achieved by applying the highest mechanical power possible without disrupting laminar flow; therefore, structures that would disturb laminar flow should occupy as little space as possible within the mixing volume. The disadvantage of multi-shaft mixers becomes apparent at this point. For this reason, achieving dispersion with the minimum number of flow-disrupting structures is important from both time and energy perspectives.
