BENTONE® and BENAQUA® Clay-Based Rheology Additives in Construction Chemicals
Rheology control is critical in renders, mortars, floor coatings, EIFS and tile adhesives and other construction chemicals. Cellulose ethers fundamentally regulate consistency and water retention. However, when cellulosics are combined with clay-based products, significant performance improvements are achieved.
BENTONE ® OC, is a natural hectorite-based rheology agent. When used with cellulose ether, its application behavior improves trowel application, pumpability of cement, lime and renders. It also increases shear resistance of freshly applied material.
BENTONE ® GS is a highly pure and enriched hectorite-based product. In paste-like emulsion systems such as renders and adhesives, it can partially replace cellulose ether.
BENTONE® GS application typically optimizes trowel application and is observed to improve shear resistance. Additionally, extended open time after application and reduced water absorption in cured systems are observed.
BENAQUA® 4000, is a hectorite/polymer composite-based rheology agent. When formulated in cement-based systems in EIFS and tile adhesives by partially replacing cellulose ether, it provides significant improvement in application properties and reduced tack on equipment.
Additionally, the use of BENAQUA® 4000 leads to improvements in yield point and shear resistance.
