New Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)
Coronavirus, which has recently posed a serious threat to people; emerged in the city of Wuhan, China and rapidly affected the entire world. As in all countries, a serious fight against coronavirus is underway in our country as well.
Based on information I received from the Ministry of Health, the following 14 steps are life-saving in the fight against coronavirus…
- We should wash our hands frequently and for at least 20 seconds.
- When coughing and sneezing, we should not cover our mouth and nose with our hands, but use tissues; if we do not have a tissue at that moment, we should use the inside of our elbow.
- We should not touch our eyes, nose and mouth with our hands.
- We should maintain at least 1 metre distance between ourselves and people showing cold symptoms and other people around us.
- We should postpone or cancel our trips abroad.
- Since the problem is global in scope, it is very important to think about other people. For this reason, after returning from abroad, we need to spend the first 14 days at home.
- We should not accept visitors at home, or visit others as a visitor during this period. Being able to say "No" during this process is quite important.
- We should frequently ventilate the spaces we are in.
- We should clean the surfaces we use frequently, door handles, fixtures, and sinks with detergents such as bleach and vinegar every day.
- We should never share personal items such as towels and similar things.
- We should wash our clothes at 60 or 90 degrees with detergent, and use steam when ironing our laundry.
- We should avoid close contact such as handshakes and hugs.
- A strong immune system is the most important thing in this disease… For this reason, we should consume plenty of fluids and eat a balanced diet. We should also pay attention to our sleep schedule.
- If we notice cold symptoms, we should not have contact with elderly people or those with chronic diseases, and we must not go outside without wearing a mask. Persistent fever, shortness of breath and cough are the most distinctive features of this disease; when you notice these symptoms, wear a mask and consult the nearest health facility.
