Following its rich history, Kazakhstan was established on world maps in 1991. Understanding that the word "Kazakh," which has Turkish origins, means "Free Man," we can appreciate that the Kazakhs are a nation devoted to their independence. The Republic of Kazakhstan, located in Central Asia, borders Russia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and China. Additionally, these territories, which rank ninth in the world by land area, have coastlines on the Caspian Sea and the Aral Lake.

Source of Exports: Rich Mineral Resources

Kazakhstan has arable land. However, if you ask what forms the foundation of the economy and how this country develops, the answer is "rich mineral resources." Particularly, reserves of oil, uranium, gold, and iron are substantial. When we consider that 26% of the world's chromium, 20% of its gold, and 17% of its uranium are located in these territories, we can easily confirm that our answer is well-founded. The Karaganda Region contains rich coal deposits, while the Ural-Emba Basin holds oil reserves. In addition to all these, copper, lead (in Altai, Kara-Tav, Ala-Tav, Tekeli), zinc (Alma-Ata), iron (Karkara, Balkhash, Jezkazgan, Ata-Su), manganese, tin, tungsten, molybdenum, and antimony are extracted from these territories. Because mineral and raw material production in the country far exceeds domestic needs, 90% of metallic bismuth, sponge titanium, clay and refined copper, and manganese and its concentrates production; 80% of oil, metallic lead, and zinc production; and more than 50% of natural gas, coal, iron ore, and chromium production are exported abroad. Looking at the material wealth discovered beneath Kazakhstan's soil, this amounts to more than 2 trillion U.S. dollars.

How Are Our Trade Relations with Kazakhstan?

When Kazakhstan declared independence on 16 December 1991, the Republic of Turkey was one of the first two countries to recognize it. By 1992, our diplomatic relations began to take center stage. As a result, economic relations between Turkey and Kazakhstan commenced. After Kazakhstan declared independence, the infrastructure for economic and trade relations in various fields between the two countries began to take shape, and approximately 100 protocols, cooperation agreements, and treaties were signed. In light of this information, looking at the present day, the leading products Turkey exports to Kazakhstan include jewelry, woven carpets, wire, cable, electrical conductors, fasteners made of iron and steel such as screws, bolts and nuts, and machinery for sorting earth, stone and metal ore. The leading products Turkey imports from Kazakhstan include refined copper and copper alloys, petroleum gases, unprocessed lead, gold, copper master alloys, and chromium oxides. When we examine the products with major export potential, we can see on this list: building materials, cables and wires, electrical machinery, food processing and packaging machinery, medical devices and pharmaceuticals, packaging materials, and hygienic paper products.
