Bertolt Brecht's unforgettable play The Threepenny Opera, a production by the world-renowned theatre ensemble Berliner Ensemble and interpreted by Robert Wilson, the virtuoso director of contemporary theatre, comes to Istanbul.
Under the auspices of Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), sponsored by ENKA Foundation, The Threepenny Opera will be performed on 13 May Friday and 14 May Saturday at Zorlu Performing Arts Center Main Stage. Through a world of anti-heroes filled with adventures, the play not only sheds light on the past but also engages with concrete realities of today's world, allowing for an interpretation of our present from a different perspective. The Threepenny Opera transforms into a 21st-century classic under the extraordinary direction of stage magician Robert Wilson, where movement, light, text and design interweave.

A Musical Performance That Brings Theatre and Design Together in Surprising Ways

This work by Bertolt Brecht, one of the most important German poets, playwrights and theatre directors of the 20th century, founder of Berliner Ensemble and Epic Theatre, holds an important place in theatre history. It has maintained its relevance in every period and is a musical performance that brings theatre and design together in surprising ways. With a text that is both serious and slapstick, both sarcastic and emotionally poetic, The Threepenny Opera entertains and amuses its audience on one hand, while making them think through its parodic structure and ironic content on the other. With its music, it becomes a musical spectacle that keeps the audience constantly awake and entertained at every moment. The music of the play, which has become part of popular culture and will be performed live by a valuable orchestra throughout the show, is composed by important German composer Kurt Weill.     Kaydet
