Drinking Milk Strengthens the Immune System
Cold weather brings an increase in viral infections, prompting the search for preventive measures. Experts recommend regular milk consumption to strengthen the immune system against disease.
Experts note that weakening of the immune system during winter months leads to increased upper respiratory tract infections, and they point out that milk consumption, which contains more than 40 nutrients, is important in preventing winter illnesses such as influenza, colds and pharyngitis.
Prof. Dr. Neriman İnanç, Head of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Nuh Naci Yazgan University Faculty of Health Sciences, emphasizes that milk is a vital fluid with an important place in nutrition at every stage of life, and points out that the more than 40 nutrients contained in milk enable cells that form the defence system to function well, thereby protecting the body against infections.
İnanç recalls that the main nutrients in milk are protein, fat, lactose, minerals and vitamins, stating: "Two glasses of milk consumed regularly every day can meet the complete daily mineral requirements of children and adults.
The fat contained in milk is a very rich energy source and is important in that it contains essential fatty acids and vitamins A, D, E and K."
