What You Need to Know About Accurate Blood Pressure Measurement
According to the Turkish Hypertension Prevalance Study PatenT2, conducted by the Turkish Hypertension and Kidney Diseases Association in 2012, hypertension is observed in 30% of the population over 18 years of age in Turkey.
However, only 55% of patients with hypertension know they have it, meaning that out of every 100 hypertensive individuals, 45 do not realize their blood pressure is elevated.
Omron reminds those experiencing blood pressure issues that they need to monitor their blood pressure regularly at home by taking measurements and shares important tips for those who want to measure correctly.
Do Not Move During Measurement
If you need to measure your blood pressure routinely, you should do so every day at the same time, in the same manner, and from the same arm. For example, if you measure on an empty stomach in the morning, you should continue this the next day. You should rest for at least five minutes before taking a measurement. Wear clothing that does not squeeze your arm, and remove your watch if you have one. Sit upright and support your arm. Do not speak, move, or cross your legs during measurement.Pay Attention to Heart Level!kan
If you are measuring from the wrist, be careful to position your arm from your middle finger to your shoulder, with your wrist at heart level. When you attach the blood pressure device, if you bend your left arm so that your fingertips touch your right shoulder, you can achieve the correct position. You should fasten the blood pressure device tightly around your wrist, leaving approximately one centimeter of space. If you are measuring from the arm, make sure your arm is supported from below and does not hang freely. Extend your arm forward at heart level and bend it slightly at the elbow. Ensure that the lower end of the cuff (the wide part of the blood pressure device that attaches to the arm) is approximately one finger width above your elbow crease, and wrap the cuff snugly around your arm without gaps.Avoid the Mistake That 1 in 3 People Make!
Blood pressure device cuffs for upper arm measurement have a mark indicating arteries. For correct measurement to be performed, this mark on the cuff must be aligned with the artery, that is, properly positioned. Research shows that 1 in 3 people fail to perform this positioning correctly, resulting in inaccurate measurements. Thanks to the clinically validated Omron patented "Intelligent Cuff" technology, blood pressure can be measured accurately and precisely at all positions on the upper arm. The Omron M7 Intelli IT model with Intelligent Cuff technology detects indicators such as irregular heartbeat and morning hypertension, as well as possible atrial fibrillation risk through three consecutive measurements. The Omron M7 Intelli IT also offers easy tracking, capable of storing up to 100 measurements for two different users. Additionally, through the OMRON Connect application usable on smart devices, blood pressure history can be recorded and individuals can easily share their results with their doctors.Advertisement
