Chasing the Present

İstanbul Modern, presents its collection exhibition "In Pursuit of Now," focusing on the human condition in today's world. It brings together works that examine the relationship between humans and the city, nature, physical environment and self; placing them within historical, social and personal contexts. Additionally, the exhibition reflects the effects of new visual and auditory stimuli emerging in today's world on human emotion. "In Pursuit of Now" constructs various intersecting and relational thematic areas, and through the works in the exhibition, it opens onto secondary paths such as identity, body, gender politics, processes of construction and destruction, and the relationship between nature and humans. While addressing the complex relationship between the city and architecture—constructions created by humans to establish ideal living spaces—and city dwellers, the exhibition also points to the possible consequences of the drive to exercise dominion by transgressing the boundaries of construction and natural life. It indicates the consequences of the destruction that domesticated nature brings with it and the deterioration of social heritage transmitted across generations. The turning of humans toward themselves as they attempt to cope with the destructive dimensions of various transformations, the search for identity and the relationship with the depths of the unconscious constitute an important axis of the exhibition, while "In Pursuit of Now" also features works that address gender roles and women's issues from different perspectives.
