Light, the source of all existence, can be said to be the creator of matter; matter naturally casts shadow, and shadow belongs to light.Louis Kahn The Silence and Light programme serves as a tribute to Louis Kahn's works, legacy, and the influence of his architecture on cinema. Presented within the scope of the Louis Kahn: A New Look exhibition, this programme includes documentaries and fiction films alongside Kahn's work, embracing the art of architecture. Silence and Light, the first documentary film to examine Louis Kahn's works, explores the most important of the architect's completed projects, while My Architect: A Son's Journey reflects a personal journey through the artist's complex genius; The Belly of an Architect, directed by Peter Greenaway and a drama on life, death, and architecture, was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival. In the film Sideways Window, the disconnections of modern urban life and missed opportunities are addressed. Paying unique tribute to the city of Buenos Aires, writer and director Gustavo Taretto reflects how urban chaos and new technologies can simultaneously unite and alienate people. A documentary, The Human Scale questions our assumptions about modernity, examining what happens when we place humans at the centre of our equations. For the question "If buildings could speak, what would they say to us?", Culture Cathedrals offers six striking answers. Six important directors have contributed their own visual styles and artistic approaches to this project, demonstrating how each of the symbolic buildings addressed reflects our culture and preserves collective memory. Designed as a personal video diary, the documentary Infinite Joy examines ideal housing while offering an optimistic vision resulting from design inspired by communal living.
