Russian Avant-Garde: Dreaming the Future Through Art and Design

Sabancı University's Sakıp Sabancı Museum is hosting Turkey's most comprehensive exhibition of the Russian Avant-Garde movement, which shaped 20th-century world art, with the support of Sabancı Holding. The "Russian Avant-Garde. Dreaming the Future with Art and Design" exhibition, which opened its doors at S.Ü. Sakıp Sabancı Museum on 18 October 2018 and will continue until 1 April 2019, presents Russian avant-garde art through a comprehensive selection with the support of Sabancı Holding.                 Co-curated by Sakıp Sabancı Museum Director Dr. Nazan Ölçer and Dr. Maria Tsantsanoglou, Director of the Thessaloniki State Museum of Contemporary Art - Costakis Collection, the exhibition features 513 works selected from the Costakis Collection as well as the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts and Multimedia Art Museum in Moscow and leading private collections across Europe, shedding light on the rich place of Russian Avant-Garde in art history, presented for the first time together in Turkey. Sakıp Sabancı Museum, part of Sabancı University, aims to fulfill its academic mission in this exhibition focused on one of the most exciting periods of 20th-century art history by presenting the layers of the political background of Russian Avant-Garde within a contextual framework. In the exhibition, artists and schools that were active during the period and sought to extend art to every area of life are represented with their rich repertoires in the fields of painting, design, literature, film and theatre.
