Bespoke (custom-made) orders completed in 2024 reflect record levels of demand for personalized production. Orders that have become increasingly bold and reach the pinnacle of creativity in personal inspiration have left their mark on 2024.
In 2024, designers, engineers and craftspeople at Rolls-Royce's Bespoke Collection came together to bring to life the most creative and ambitious works of art ever seen to date.
Customer orders encompassed extremely complex, hand-painted and crafted artworks, stainless steel and gold inlays, elegant shimmering paint finishes and much more. Pursuing perfection and guided by their customers' dreams, Rolls-Royce craftspeople created unique graphics comprised of 869,500 stitches, drawing inspiration from the Spirit of Ecstasy. They immortalized cultural symbols on the canvas of materials such as leather, wood and fabric. From finely crafted coachline motifs to large-scale artworks spanning the entire interior design, the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collection once again pushed the boundaries of luxury.
Chris Brownrigge, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Chief Executive, noting that each Rolls-Royce vehicle serves as a canvas for its owner's bespoke order, stated: "This year we were once again delighted and challenged by the breadth of our customers' imagination, creativity and ambition. This gave us the opportunity to showcase the genius and vision of our Bespoke Collection."
The extraordinary complexity behind this year's orders reflects the continuing increase in the number of customers who trust the brand's craftspeople with their boldest visions. Although these inspirations are as diverse as the customers themselves, they enabled distinct themes to emerge throughout the year. Custom orders are becoming increasingly personal, with many customers creating masterpieces to celebrate significant life events and to commemorate turning points, places and people that hold meaning for them.
As 2024 draws to a close, only some of the most select examples of Bespoke possibilities are examined.
PHANTOM SCINTILLA
This magnificent Special Collection is limited to only 10 examples worldwide and celebrates the spiritual beauty, elegance and heritage of the Spirit of Ecstasy.
The interior was stitched with 869,500 stitches to create a graphic that continues from the expressive power of the Spirit of Ecstasy. The figurine itself features a unique ceramic coating reminiscent of Parian marble from the Greek sculpture Winged Victory of Samothrace, which inspired the original mascot order in 1910.
The centerpiece work, the Celestial Pulse Gallery, is an artwork capturing the transient presence of the Spirit of Ecstasy. This artwork consists of seven separately crafted bands, each coated with the same ceramic finish as the Spirit of Ecstasy figure. Above, the Bespoke Illuminated Ceiling features an animation containing 1,500 fiber optic stars designed to be inspired by the Spirit of Ecstasy's flying dress.
BLACK BADGE GHOST CITY LIGHTS
This order was created exclusively for the United Kingdom and features the Illuminated Fascia with a Bespoke design recreating a bird's-eye panorama of London. The graphic was designed to be inspired by the thrilling view seen during the aircraft's final approach to the city as it descends for landing at night. The pattern is created with 8,372 laser-engraved lights, each manually positioned, individually placed on the Piano Black finish surface.
CULLINAN SERIES II – INSPIRED BY ROSE
This elegant and highly artistic order was designed to be inspired by the Phantom Rose, which grows in the courtyard where Rolls-Royce is located in Goodwood and is found nowhere else in the world.
Bespoke designers created a stylized rose motif. This motif was transformed into delicate embroidery on the front and rear seat headrests and carefully incorporated into the hand-painted Coachline.
PHANTOM GOLDFINGER
Rolls-Royce created a highly detailed tribute to the 1937 Phantom III Sedanca de Ville of the villain bearing its name in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the James Bond film Goldfinger.
Bespoke specialists recreated the model faithful to the famous black and gold exterior finish of the original vehicle and added creative features that reference key scenes from the film. These include a gold golf club designed to be inspired by the one Auric Goldfinger used in the famous golf match with 007, and an 18-karat gold-colored speed form displayed on the center console.
SPECTRE LUNAFLAIR
Ordered by a discerning customer from the United States, Spectre Lunaflair draws inspiration from the optical phenomenon known as a lunar halo. This phenomenon is based on moonlight passing through ice crystals at high altitude, creating a bright ring around the moon.
To capture this visual, specialists spent a year developing a unique holographic paint finish dedicated exclusively to the customer placing the order. The captivating 'rainbow' effect was achieved by applying seven coats of varnish, including a layer of pearl luster blended with fine magnesium fluoride and aluminum flakes. In this way, a deep metallic effect is created in low light, while bright sunlight produces a vibrant burst of rainbow tones.
GHOST EXTENDED SERIES II – THE ENCOUNTER
This elegant Ghost Extended Series II was designed to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the founders coming together on 4 May 1904. This commemorative order includes numerous references to Charles Rolls and Henry Royce, including initials on the seat headrests, signatures on the C-Pillar and historical dates in the coachline motif symbolizing their founding date.
PHANTOM YEAR OF THE DRAGON
This extraordinary Phantom Extended was ordered through the Shanghai Special Office and was designed to commemorate the 2024 Lunar New Year, honoring the Year of the Dragon beginning 10 February 2024. The interior is a beautiful example of the rising trend called Guochao, which blends international heritage and Chinese cultural traditions, and is designed with carefully crafted details inspired by a traditional dragon symbol.
Among the designs called Guochao are a unique hand-painted artwork on the front passenger panel, dragon embroidery on the seat headrests, coachline motifs and, for the first time in a Bespoke Starlight Ceiling Finish, a depiction of a dragon created using 677 'stars'.
