Cyrille Aimée / Elchin Shirinov Trio
Sunday, 7 July 20:45 - Sakıp Sabancı Museum Pistachio Terrace
The first guest of this festival evening at SSM Pistachio Terrace in the Bosphorus atmosphere is the Elchin Shirinov Trio, bringing together pianist and composer Elchin Shirinov, Grammy Award-winning bassist Panagiotis Andreou and drummer Engin Kaan Günaydın, discoverer of innovative melodies. Shirinov's effortless manner at concerts he has performed at Baku Jazz Festival, Budapest, Brussels, Moscow and Paris has aroused admiration for being as passionate and thoughtful as it is effortless. His blending of hidden harmonies, microtones and repetitions specific to Eastern tradition in Azerbaijani folk music at a pace led by drums has earned the admiration of jazz enthusiasts. Andreou, who will bring depth to the trio with his bass, stands out through blending electronic jazz with playing and singing styles specific to Latin and Balkan music; drummer Engin Kaan Günaydın distinguishes himself with an innovative, dynamic and melodic drumming language. The second guest of the evening, on which we will embark on a journey toward the heart of jazz, overlooking the sea, is Cyrille Aimée. For the renowned vocalist, improvisation is more than a technique—it is a way of life. The vocalist, who began singing by slipping into Romani settlements in her native France, is today described as "a rising star in the galaxy of jazz vocalists" and occasionally dons an actor's role for Broadway. You are expected in Emirgan to encounter this voice, compared to Ella Fitzgerald for her lyrical as well as playful style and finalist of the Montreux Jazz Festival Vocal Competition.
